Since we had some business to attend to in the area, my wife and I decided to stop for a bistro lunch at A la Maison. What a special treat! We were graciously greeted at the door and promptly seated at a table near the front windows. The atmosphere is warm and European - hardwood floors, brass accents, cafe music and a basket holding fresh batons of bread from the Metropolitan Bakery in clear view.
Our server Rose Ann was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. She took the time to explain the lunch specials and to provide recommendations. My wife opted for the St. Laurent Salmon which arrived perfectly cooked and served with French green lentils, baby root vegetables and a delightful mustard crème. I chose one of the quiche specials with gruyere and goat cheeses and sautéed spinach and was served with a lightly dressed side salad. Both of our choices were excellent! We also couldn't help but notice the hearty aroma of a seafood bouillabaisse that was being served to a neighboring table - a definite must to keep in mind for a return visit. The dessert menu included a number of tempting options from the in-house pastry chef and we chose to share a warm challah bread pudding served with crème anglicize, berries and vanilla ice cream along with cups of distinctive La Colombe coffee, one of our personal favorites. Superbe!
Our bill came to $42 (excluding tax and tip), perhaps a bit of a splurge for lunch but well worth it for the quality of the food and the overall dining experience. Bon Appetite!
