Trying to get a reservation in the Lehigh Valley when Family weekend falls on the same weekend for both Lehigh University and Muhlenberg College is tough, even when calling over 4 weeks in advance. After my Muhlenberg sophomore daughters first and second choices were solidly booked, I tried her third choice Grille 3501, located minutes away from the college. The third try was definitely a charm, we had a 7:00 reservation and were thrilled with the food at the restaurant. Admittedly, the meal took a while (two and a half hours!), but it was because they were bursting at the seams with college kids and their families. Our attentive waitress came to our table repeatedly to apologize, but it was not necessary, we were enjoying our time and it gave us time to digest in between each delicious course. The crab soup was amazing with big lumps of lusicous crabmeat through out, other appetizers were also outstanding, including the seared foie grasse and the duck quessidillas. All our main courses were delicious, especially the short rib, the wasabi tuna was a little too spicy for my son however. All deserts were wonderful!! We have eaten in some of the best restaurants in New York, and the food in this little gem in Allentown would give them a run for a lot less money!! (dinner for four, three courses each, no alchol was about 180.00, not too bad for the quality of food, ) We look forward to going again!!
