The real star at Buca Di Beppo, an Italian chain restaurant near Allentown, is the decor with colored lights, plastic statues of Venus de Milo, shrines to Frank Sinatra, fake flowers, and even an entire room dedicated to kitchy souvenirs depicting the Pope. I found myself looking around like a tourist (which I was).
This is a fun place for groups. They seat you at tables holding from four to eight persons per table and they bring out the food family style. The salad, the garlic bread, the pasta with meat sauce, the lasagna, the penne with marinara. The food is plentiful and tasty...and the wait staff can be as campy as the decor. My group had a good time here.
That being said, I would warn that if you are looking for fine dining without the added entertainment of a decor that stretches the borderlines of good taste, pass this place by. There is nothing particularly sophisticated about the food...it's not fancy, just good. Come expecting raffia covered bottles and checkered table cloths with photos of Sophia Loren all over the place and you'll be fine. Have a good time.
