Ballooning over the Willamette Valley should be on everyones' bucket list. I am lucky to have done it twice.
We had a great flight - lifting into the clear sky as the sun rises over Mt. Hood. Absolutely a spectacular sight.
And Dereck, the pilot/owner and his wife are charming and gracious.
Having flown once before, with a different service, there were a couple of issues that left us somewhat dissatisfied:
We were a party of three adults, and ended up having to leave one of our party behind. The balloon basket is divided into six compartments, just large enough for two people to ride comfortably. The other compartments were full, so the three of us had to fit into just one compartment. While doable, it was like being packed into a Tokyo subway car, during the height of the morning comute.
The third member of our party was very uncomfortable and elected to forego the flight.
There was no offer of a refund for the person who did not fly.
Second, the post-flight breakfast was a let down. A good breakfast post-flight really makes the experience complete. However, the breakfast on the day we flew consisted of just a few light snacks and a couple of cheese and salami slices.........
Portland Rose is the more economical of the hot air balloon services in Portland. And it was a great flight. But, it just wasn't as enjoyable as other balloon services I've flown with.
