“Special Treatment Starting with our First E-mail Exchange”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2007

We knew we would be treated special at the Chanticleer Inn starting from our first e-mail exchange, when after making our reservation, our hostess asked about our child's milk preference (Skim, 1%, 2% or Whole) and than shortly after we received another e-mail asking if he could have homemade hot chocolate. Right away we knew our needs and preferences were important to our Innkeepers. And their great service continued when we arrived late at night. We were warmly greeted and promptly shown our lovely garden level room which was all ready for us to snuggle into. We felt as if we had arrived at a friend's house, which was especially comforting after a 9 hour drive and a sleepy child in our arms.

In the morning, we awoke to wonderful smells of a mixed berry fruit cobbler and great coffee. The breakfast continued with a savory egg asparagus frittata and yam slices - Yum!. Ellen and Howie (our Innkeepers) joined us at breakfast . Our conversation was engaging, upbeat and filled with interesting tidbits about the area.

The Inn is in an ideal location. You can park your car at the Inn and never use it again until your departure as all the attractions that downtown Ashland has to offer (Shakespeare Theatres, Restaurants, Shopping, Lithia Park) are just a short walk away.

The Chanticleer Inn is what we look for in a Bed and Breakfast,- beautiful, clean, warm, great food and hosts that very quickly feel like old friends. This was our first visit to the Chanticleer but it won't be our last.

The Ashland Chanticleer Inn is a mystical place of gardens and true craftsman style lodging within a short walk of the Shakespeare Festival playhouses. The owners Ellen and Howie are wonderful innkeepers who pay attention to details so that you are not only comfortable, but also assured of privacy. There are a variety of rooms available from the garden level where I stayed to rooms in upper levels with sloping ceilings. The beds are firm and creature comforts expected are highest quality. They use environmentally friendly products that appeal to the senses. The food was exceptional. The breakfast was comprised of two courses. The fruit course seemed like you were walking into an orchard as you were presented with a perfectly ripe half-pear garnished with yogurt, orange slices and berries. Following the fruit was the hot food course which consisted of baked French toast that was hot and melted in your mouth with a hint of cinnamon. It also was garnished with sliced fruit. It reminded me of hot bread pudding with subtle spicing and flavors. Each course was like a composed picture. You hated to disturb it but it demanded to be eaten with relish. I cannot say enough nice things about The Ashland Chanticleer Inn, a truly superb place to stay.

We recently stayed at the Chanticleer Inn for three nights. This lovely B&B is within walking distance to theaters, restaurants and Lithia Park in Ashland. Our room was on the second floor with beautiful views of the valley and snow capped mountains. The room was comfortable and well appointed - the bed was perfect for us - we are very particular about beds. Breakfast was light, healthy and delicious. Service was impeccable and the owners, Ellen and Howie were great hosts. This was our second visit and we intend to return.

I have stayed at the Chanticleer Inn almost every time I vacation in Ashland and I have no problem calling the Chanticleer Inn my second home. My fondest memories of Ashland are waking up to Ellen's scrumptious breakfast and listening to Howie's stories; not to mention sipping coffee while taking in the amazing views of the mountains and the nature. This Inn is hands down "the best in town" and I would refer anyone to it.

Another appealing feature of the Inn is the readily available Wi-Fi access and the subcriptions the Inn has to the WSJ, NYTimes, etc. Please consult wth Howie if you ever need some clarification on current affairs, as he seems to have extensive knowledge on all the stories and excellent conversation skills; I think he wakes up early just to read every story around the world by the time Ellen has breakfast on the table.

On your way out, remember to grab a handful of cookies; just remember to leave some for me as I plan on being there as soon as I can! ;-)

We just returned from a wonderful trip to Ashland, Oregon, where we stayed at the the Chanticleer Inn, a bed and breakfast with delicious food and a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. Our hosts, Ellen and Howie had a tremendous talent for making everyone feel at home. Their location is lovely and is within walking distance of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival theatres, as well as the many amenities the town has to offer. This was our first stay at the Chanticleer Inn, but it will not be our last.

A warm, friendly home-away-from-home. Owners Ellen and Howie made us feel comfortable and welcome right away. A wonderful place to relax, and a convenient walk to town and the theaters.

Highly recommended. Owner Ellen was my accomplice in a secret plan to woo my now-fiance with champagne and flowers. We managed to pull it off, and my future wife was completely surprised! Ellen took delivery of the flowers, chilled the champagne, and arranged it all in our room for us to discover upon our return. And the room and house were absolutely perfect. We stayed in the Aerie room, with a gorgeous king-size bed, and we won't soon forget it! If you're headed to Ashland, you can't do any better.
