While planning a “Girls’ Weekend Getaway” in Ashland, I was browsing online for a special place to stay. Amidst what seemed like hundreds of frilly bed and breakfasts that all looked the same, A-Dome Studio with their beautiful lodge-style dwelling and country setting caught my eye. Upon arrival (despite a rustic exterior appearance), my friend and I were delighted with the choice! Located just a few minutes outside of Ashland on a quiet, winding country road, we enjoyed the scenery as much as the bustle and theater in town. As outdoor enthusiasts, we spent one afternoon venturing up the road a bit farther to the lake at the top of the mountain where we sunbathed and went swimming.
Our hosts, Barbara and Scott, turned out to be wonderful, warm, knowledgeable, talented people with amazing stories when asked to share. The “Lodge” itself has as much character as its owners - truly beautiful with natural wood and stone, an incredible stone hearth with open ceilings (I’d love to visit during the winter with the fire blazing in that fireplace!), furnished with cozy beds and fresh linens, cushy chairs for lounging (I could spend hours gazing into the wild outdoors or over the pastures as their horses graze), lovely antique pieces, fascinating artwork – Picture perfect.
We felt more than at home thanks to all of the little extras provided by the hosts. The bathrooms are stocked with fancy lotions, soaps, and other supplies should you leave anything behind. Bottled water, teas, refreshments, and even a bottle of champagne were provided in our own private refrigerator. I was really impressed at how clean and tidy the rooms were (despite the dust that you might encounter during the dry summers outdoors!), and although I was tempted to meander the lodge in my bare feet, a luxurious set of fluffy slippers and a robe were also provided for your lounging comfort!
And the breakfasts? Wow! Barbara and Scott prepare fantastic, multiple-course meals including pastries, muffins, tarts, fresh fruit, to the hearty fare (bacon, ham, eggs, potatoes & other wonderful combinations) which are mouth-watering and as artistically presented as the rest of the home. Bring your appetite - Not wanting to miss out on such a rare treat, we ate every bit each morning which was easily twice the volume I believed possible to consume!
We had a wonderful visit in Ashland and our stay at the A-Dome Studio was nearly a vacation in itself - delightful and enchanting! I can’t wait to visit again!
