John and Kathy have restored this gem of history to its former glory with modern conveniences abounding! The queen bed is comfy, the ceilings seem at least 15 feet, and the windows are the originals and are huge. Instead of having the Barron room (where we stayed) exist as the original two bedrooms, the adjoining bathroom is expansive with a 5 and 1/2 foot claw foot tub, and a spacious shower complete with a window to take in the views of the countryside as you cleanse and restore.

But the best part of the stay is by far the breakfasts! Kathy made us cranberry scones accompanied by fresh fruit our first morning and the second we enjoyed spicy chicken sausage and silver dollar pancakes accompanied by yogurt with strawberries and kiwi. Fresh O.J. and Peet's coffee rounded out our breakfasts - yum!

In the back room, you have a fancy fresh brew a cup of coffee maker for anytime convenience as well as a kettle with an assortment of teas. Snacks are on hand and they range from healthy to decadent chocolates.

Upon our arrival, we were present when another couple was disgruntled because they were staying in the stand-alone house because John had neglected to turn the hot water on in anticipation of their arrival, which meant they wouldn't have hot water for another hour or two - this does not happen in the house and you'll never run out of hot water.

A great choice when vacationing!

The Ashland Mountain House is simply the best B&B I've every stayed in. This house has been lovingly restored and filled with exquisite antiques. It isn't cutsie or overly victorian as many B&B's can be. We stayed in the Russell Room, which is quite spacious with a queen and a double bed. The bathroom is absolutely luxurious. The mattresses are divine, as are the linens (300 thread count sheats -- at least!). The Russell Room has its own entry and is located over the kitchen. Do expect some light kitchen noise and the smell of cooking food to creep into the room in the mornings. John and Kathy are wonderful hosts. John will give you a history of the property and the process of restoring the house--very interesting. Breakfasts are out of this world--waffles, pancakes, fresh fruit, juice, yummy teas and espresso. Kathy is a fantasic cook and is willing to accomodate vegans and vegetarians (thank you, Kathy!). We loved staying out in the country. The gardens here are beautiful and we enjoyed walking around the property and visiting with the chickens. Do note that it's a 10-15 minute drive to the center of Ashland. Best of all, they have a little Jack Russell Terrier named Teddy. If you're not a dog fan, he'll leave you alone, but he does enjoy having his chin scratched should you care to give him some love.

I hesitate to write this review because I don't want to have even more competition when I make my reservations for next summer - but I suppose one musn't be selfish! Ashland Mountain House is simply wonderful. It's an incredibly beautiful property that has been painstakingly restored to what I imagine is even nicer than its original form. Our spacious bedroom and palatial bathroom were to die for. John is a lovely host and the breakfasts out on the porch were marvelous. I'm more of a hotel person and was concerned that a B&B would be too intimate for comfort, but I was pleased to find that conversing with John and the other guests only added to the charm of the experience. I was also concerned that the location might be inconvenient for playgoing, but the town was surprisingly accessible. All in all - just perfect!

We were staying in this lovely B&B for one night on our way to Crater Lake. The house is so charming and elegantly decorated. The host, John is so friendly and we enjoyed a lot to chat with him.

I was surprised how well the house is decorated and how good the condition is. John told us they spent 1.5 million to restore and decorate the house.

The stay is totally beyond our expectations. We didn't only get a very nice stay but also get some historical lessons of the Oregon in 19th century.

Highly recommend it and will take my whole family here again:)

What a place! With all the options in Ashland, this one is by far the best. We stayed in town the first night, but it was so nice to escape to the moutain house after dealing with the crowds in Ashland.

John and Kathy are both incredibly sweet and nice. The breakfasts were works of art and the rooms were comfortable and clean. There are snacks available, and even wine in the fridge! Of all the B and B's we stayed during out trip through Portland, this was the most memorable. We stayed in the Gibbs room, which was a very large room with a monsterous claw foot tub!
