“Great Place to Stay in Ashland”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

We found the rooms to be very comfortable and large and the free breakfast was great. The reviews of all the plays from the guests were very helpful. We would definitely stay at the Stratford again for an affordable and comfortable hotel with excellent and helpful service from all the staff.

I recently had to go to ashland for work and brought my mother and daughter with me. We found stratford inn to be perfect for all of us...a clean pool, coffee shop, walkability, environmentally friendly, and the most friendly staff. I have traveled a lot lately and rarely find such helpful and accommodating staff. We will be back and we highly recommend this hotel.

Our family of four stays at Stratford every time we come to Ashland and we could not ask for anything better. The staff is the best and always welcoming and gets us our room early, if possible. Great location next to grocery store and a short walk to restaurants and plays downtown. Enjoy the clean pool, hot tub, and sitting outside on patio. Basic rooms come with refrigerator and are always clean. Love this place and would not stay anywhere else.

We return to the Stratford year after year for many reasons, not least of which is its excellent location - within walking distance of the theaters and all the other great shops and restaurants of downtown Ashland and right next to a grocery store, yet somehow the location still feels quiet and out of the way. Great coffee shop on site too. The pool is open very late which is unusual and fun for after the evening show. The Stratford is very clean, and we appreciate having a freezer/refrig. combo unit in the room. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and rates are reasonable.

We love Ashland and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival however it is not so easy to find a place that can accommodate two parents and three children. The Stratford has not failed us yet in giving us a big room with full kitchen (helps the food budget), enough beds and fold out couches to make sure we all get a good night's sleep and a large bathroom with two sinks (luxury). It may not be the most elegant hotel around but it is accommodating and it is an easy walk to the Festival. There is a Safeway across the street that is open until midnight every day so you can stock up the fridge and the larder. They also serve breakfast every morning and my youngest became addicted to the biscuits and gravy. It is great to sit in the breakfast room and listen to the discussions of the plays from the night before. You can also right your own review and they will post the best of these with an overall tally board. The final touch is the indoor pool and spa - the perfect end to a day of hot weather (over 100 when we were there) and hot plays!

Room Tip: The rooms at the end of the corridors tend to be bigger.

I searched and searched for a place in Ashland that would accommodate my 4 person family. Ideally, I was searching for a 2 bedroom suite and an outdoor pool, within walking distance to the plays and something that had been updated in the last few years (ie: comfortable beds). No such luck. I stayed at the Stratford over 20 years ago when I was in college. While the lobby has been updated, the rooms are the same cramped rooms: dark and sad, uncomfortable beds, too much furniture for too small of room. Thank goodness for the coffee shop down the hall - we spent a lot of time there! I'm curious about the person who commented on the nice views - were we staying in the same place? Looked to me you could have a view of the street or the parking lot. We spent very little time in the room. I appreciated the free laundry room - very helpful. We ate the free breakfast one morning and skipped it after that - it's a free breakfast and the offerings were slim and stale. I liked seeing the play reviews from other guests posted in the breakfast room and lobby. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I'm giving up on looking for hotels with pools.

Dear Dianne C,

I’m sorry to hear that your room was not as enjoyable as it has been to other guest.

We take each review into consideration and we are schedule to upgrade our rooms in 2013.

While we don’t have an outdoor pool and spa, we do have one that does stay open late and has enjoyable outdoor seating for all of our guest.

Some of our guests prefer our third floor which has a lovely view of the mountains.

I’m sorry that you thought our breakfast was anything less than excellent. We offer a large variety of muffins, pastries, bagels, French toast, hard boiled eggs, whole fruit, oatmeal and biscuits and gravy.

Our review board is a new addition to the Stratford Inn, and it’s a huge hit, you can see all the guest reviews at the new website; Ashlandshakepsearereviews.com. We always recommend our guest to submit their own reviews!

Please contact me for more assistance in the future with any of your reservations.

Sincerely,

Stratford Inn

Third stay at the Stratford Inn, will return next year. Very clean, average size rooms with microwave & refrigerator. Well located across from Safeway - walk to theaters/restaurants. The modest free breakfast is a plus, also a coffe shop/restaurant is on site too. Nice to have the indoor pool available. reasonable rates, free interent.
