My husband and I stayed at OPI for two nights. When I was booking it, I asked the gentleman, who took my reservation whether it was ocean front. In fact, I asked him that twice and twice he stated that yes, the it was right on the water. Perhaps I was not clear enough, but I was under the impression that ocean front means also ocean view. Well, it doesn't.

OPI has only three rooms: one "king suite" (an actual suite) on the second floor, and two "queen suits", which are located on the ground floor. The queen suits are basically hotel rooms: no separate living/bedroom, etc. In fact, to get to the queen suite, you have to take two to three steps down. The room has only a sliding glass door, facing the nicely landscaped parking, beyond which lies the ocean, and one smaller window in the back, overlooking some addition being built and a very old house (see pictures). So the room, while being mostly above the ground, felt like basement because it was very dark and no view of ocean at all. In addition, the sliding glass door was covered by a large deck from the second level, which added to the darkness.

The room is extremely clean, the linens are fresh, and the bathroom delightful. The decorations are also simple and nice. The shower was very cool (rain shower), and the color scheme and the natural stone in the bathroom very enjoyable. I also enjoyed that there was an espresso machine in the room with free espresso shots. There is an LCD TV in the room, but it is approximately 21-22 inches diagonally and mounted almost by the ceiling.

The service was excellent. The host friendly, but not intrusive. Breakfast was delicious! I have also included photos of breakfast, which that day was potato fritata with beef chorizo and fresh scone. That came along with fresh french press coffee and fresh fruit.

I only wish the host was more upfront with me about no ocean view of ANY KIND and the room being slightly below the ground. So, if you book any of the queen rooms, please know that you will not have an ocean view.

Should we have been able to book the only second level king suite, I think my review would have been different.

OPI takes each comment and review from our guests seriously and has built our reputation and improved our facilities by taking this information to heart. While we may feel that some photos do not do our Inn justice, (photos show a dark unmade room with no lights on during a dreary, stormy weekend), we have made specific improvements based on reviews by adding a larger, better placed television and pruning back the landscape to give a more open feel. Like most lodging facilities, the suite does have a sliding door facing west with the addition of a second east facing window which that offer both morning and afternoon sunshine. The suite is accessed by stepping down one step to a covered patio area that provides much welcomed protection from our Oregon rainfall and winter storms. An additional oceanfront deck with loungechairs and an outdoor dining table is only a few short steps away.

Nestled near an outcropping of a pine-studded clifftop, OPI offered us a quiet retreat in a tranquil setting. We walked from the comfort of our updated Euro-design room to the patio overlooking the ocean for breakfast. From there we walked the nearly deserted beach as the sun burned off the morning fog. Once back at the Inn, we basked in the sun on the beach. Off to Cannon Beach, a quick and scenic drive five miles North, for lunch at one of the many restaurants (hopefully, more culinary talent will be forthcoming as this spot gains in popularity). Back to OPI for a mid-afternoon siesta amidst the soothing sound of the Pacific Ocean. As the tide went out, we could make our way around that outcropping to discover a wealth of ocean life that included starfish, mussels and other marine life clinging to the rocks. With the sun sinking, we made a cocktail, grabbed a blanket and settled into our adirondack chairs to watch the colors change atop the ocean. With that, dinner back in Cannon Beach (Gower Street Bistro was good). We returned to OPI to a quiet evening repleat with lit candles and insense. Before bed, we lit a fire in the pit and kept warm in the cool evening breeze. Thanks Bruce and Ron! You are great hosts and have created a beautiful and tasteful retreat. We'll be back.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at the Inn to celebrate my 60th birthday. It could not have been any nicer. The food was fabulous, the accomodations were great and the weather was sunny and warm. While down by the beach one evening trying to make a fire in the firepit one of the owners came down and made it for us. We then relaxed in our adirondak chairs, drank our wine and watched the millions of stars in the sky. I am anxious to return. This Inn is five stars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last weekend was my second stay at ocean point inn. It was just as fabulous as my first visit in July 2006. Service continues to be outstanding. The primary contact person from my first visit remembered me creating a very positive feeling for the inn. Breakfast remains outstanding, promptly served at the time of our chosing. Even the other guests at the small inn were very nice as we all sat around an evening bon fire together, sipping wine and viewing the incredible sky show of a gazillion stars. Well worth a visit if you are looking for a comfortable, slightly off the beaten path, luxury experience.

I had been to Cannon Beach a few times in the past, and initially looked for places there, but there was little to no availability, and the majority of places seemed rather chintzy, offending my urban sensibilities. Gratefully, I stumbled upon the Ocean Point Inn in Arch Cape, four miles south of Cannon Beach, and I'll never look to that larger tourist town for accommodations again. The OPI was directly on the beach, the fellas who run the place are nice as can be, the beach front was uncrowded, the room was solidly modern without being IKEA kitsch, the breakfast delivered to my room was wonderful, and there were bunnies. The less crowded section of beach is alarmingly calming, and the jagged Oregon Coast is breathtaking. Go, go, go! You will love it.
