Shaw's reminded me of the little cabin my family would rent in Canon Beach every Springbreak. If you're in to having a upity-remodled beachside villa...this place is not for you. But if you want a warm, comfortable, family style, beachfront cabin, Shaw's is your place!
The view out the picture windows is nothing but ocean - just spectacular at sunset. Barbara and her son are both master gardeners so there is a lovely flower, vegi and berry garden across the street. You literaly walk out the front of your 'house' and step on to the deck and down the path through another garden and on to the beach (or you can stop at the bench that sits slightly above the beach - great for sunset). You can walk all the way to Hug Point at low tide.
There is a fireplace, board games, puzzles and a FULL kitchen with fridge and everything you need. This is of great use except at breakfast time when Jim, Barbara or their son makes a spectacular breakfast and will even join you to tell you stories of old Arch Cape or Alaska Crab Fishing.
This is not a community B&B its just you and whomever you bring. The set-up is a divided house. Jim and Barbara live on one side and the B&B takes up the other. It is a seperate house: 2 full bath, living/dining room, kitchen, bedroom, window seats, porch, seperate entrance and exit. It is completely cut off from the owners except for a double door in the living room that you can't hear a peep through. Its quiet...really quiet...off the road. The only sound is the sound of the ocean roaring.
I can not emphasize enough how accommodating, friendly and generous Barbara and Jim Shaw were (and their son). The evening we arrived they were hosting friends for dinner and settled us in nicely. After we had become acquainted with our home for the next three nights, she stopped by to offer some berry cobbler she had made for her friends (which we gladly accepted). We went razor clamming one morning and were loaned their son's clamming gun and accessories. Barbara loaned us her camera (we forgot ours) and developed the film after we left. She promptly mailed the photos to us. And to top it all off: They had an old Jade plant growing in the mud room. She said it was her grandfathers...or fathers. Either way it would make it an old plant. She gave us a clipping of it and it's now growing in my windowsil at home.
What a blessing the whole time was!!! We were blown away by their kindness, the amenities, the location and the more than reasonable cost.
Thank you Barbara and Jim!!! We very much hope to be back!
