“Best Stay, Love it here!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2011

Before making my reservation with Holiday inn Express, I decided to take a look at their reviews. I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay however because of the brand I decided to give it a chance. I was pleasently suprised by the hotel and their staff, Im not sure where the past bad comments were comming from but there is nothing bad about this Hotel. The Front Desk staff was wonderful! Jamie checked me in and was very nice, Christina and Taylor I got to meat over the weekend. Monday I met Leslie she was so sweet. The rooms were clean and spacious. It was just a wonderful stay I will be back for business in the future!

I travel for a living and have developed my own rating system for hotels. Creature comforts are important but an attentive, warm & sincere staff that has been empowered to meet the guest's needs rates #1 for me. This hotel is an example of just that - they understand that a smile accompanied by the ability to listen means a lot to travelers. I would like to offer special thanks to Jamie & Christina - nice job ladies!

This hotel is very well appointed with new-looking interior. The rooms are large with frig and microwave, a large bathroom and comfortable beds. The hotel staff was very accommodating and pleasant. The breakfast was very good offering both hot and cold meals.

We booked a reservation on line for one night & at check-in asked to extend the stay for two nights. Sammie approved the two night stay and put us in Rm 330 which met our requirements. Shortly after checking in and going to bed, our smoke detector started going off. We called the front desk and said it seemed the battery was low but their only option was to move us to Rm 326 which didn't meet our requirements. We asked for another rm but was told this was the only one available on upper floor. We asked for an adjustment to our bill for the inconvenience and they deducted $20 which didn't make up for what had already happened and for what was about to happen. We like to open our windows and have fresh air instead of listening to a noisy air conditioner. Room 326 (and also Room 324 if you're tracking it) was directly over the hotel's main entrance where smokers congregate and talk. It's also above the laundry room and the dryer vented upward toward our window plus there's the noise of the dryer. Our first night at 3:30 a.m. the fire alarm sounded and the hotel was evacuated. There was never an explanation about the alarm and only the desk clerk Kandyce was on duty and obviously shaken by the alarm (no manager responded). We were told the general manager was on vacation. After we went back to room, the smokers and talkers congregated under our window and this happened again about 6 a.m. waking us up after an already interrupted sleep. We were also were surprised to have a bill under our door indicating we were planning to check out of the hotel since we had made arrangements with Sammie to stay two nights. We went to the front desk and asked if we could have our first room back for the second night and that was not possible because no one had fixed our smoke alarm (we wondered if our broken alarm had anything to do with the evacuation of the hotel later on that same night). We also asked for an adjustment to our bill due to fire alarm and was told by front desk clerk she was not authorized to adjust the bill but would have the manager call us the following business day which never happened. Breakfast Saturday morning was awful. The omelets were burned and we learned that someone had left the refrigerator open all night and the food had thawed. The "cook" didn't know how to adjust the cooking times so the food was burnt. The hotel didn't know if they would have enough food for guests who stayed over Saturday night. We decided to check out and move to another hotel for our second night which kept us from qualifying for the $75 "vacation pay" rebate program offered by Holiday Inn. There were also no do not disturb signs for the room doors. On a positive note the room was clean and decor was pleasant. When we returned home, we received the standard survey from corporate Holiday Inn asking about our stay. Even though we described our unplesant experiences and requested follow-up we never were contacted by the Albany Holiday Inn General Manager Lesley Branam as promised by Kandyce or anyone from Corporate. If you have a choice, we recommend that you not stay at the Albany Holiday Inn--we moved over to the Corvallis Holiday Inn Express and it was a wonderful stay. Generally, we love the Holiday Inn Express but not in Albany.

Staff were bright, cheerful and helpful.. We appreciated their recommendations and organised discounts or local eateries. Locally produced map of local area was very helpful.
Room was comfortable, clean and well appointed. Bed was very comfortable - and pillows actually matched the attached description - either firm and soft. Business center was the best equipped of hotels previously used.

Room Tip: Book early

We came to this hotel for my cousins wedding and everything was great. I was hoping for a cheaper rate, but understanding that there were a lot of events going on in town, we went for it!! The staff was nice and the rooms were clean and comfortable.. Definately will stay again if ever the need to come back to Albany

I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Albany, OR for 5 nights. The staff was friendly and efficient and the rooms were decent. The beds were comfortable and the free breakfast was plentiful, though the eggs weren't very good. The best perk was the freshly baked cookies that came out every day around check-in time - delish! :)

This is by no means an extravagant hotel, and nothing stands out as exceptional. I have no complaints, but I wasn't blown away by anything in particular either.
