This is an outstanding restaurant run by a real husband-wife team who CARE about the food, the service and the atmosphere. Located in an older downtown store, it has been remodeled into a charming, European style restaurant with bar in the rear and Deli on the side. Soups and salads are delicious. Try the house dressing which is a wonderful, tangy tomato based dressing. You'll want to buy a bottle to take home. Entrees are all good but the best is something called the Seafood Combo...tons of mussels, clams, shrimp and scallops on a bed of pasta with a spicy red tomato sauce. Not cheap (it'll set you back close to $20) but amazing! Their Creme Brulee is to die for...so rich and creamy you will want another one right after you finish the one you've got. It's made daily by the chef...George (hence the name Papa Gjorgio). For lunch, the deli has wonder, home-made flat bread that they will slice and load up with your favorite meats and cheeses. Add a cup of homemade soup and it'll set you back $6....a bargain considering a combo meal at Arby's is that much or more.
Service is fun too. Many of the wait staff are from Europe and attending the local college. Very attentive. DO NOT BE FOOLED INTO TRYING PAPA GJORGIO'S NORTH AT THE CORNER OF LONNIE ABBOTT AND MISSISSIPPI. THAT IS A DIFFERENT RESTAURANT (though with the same owners) BUT HAS A FAR DIFFERENT (and less exciting) MENU. Go to the original Papa Gjorgio's downtown for the real experience.
