Visited Jackie O's for dinner while taking our son to Ohio University for orientation this July. It's a small college town; pretty, friendly, but not the place I expected to find the best hamburger I've had in a restaurant in 20 years or so; fries, homemade chips are options. Vegetarians have a couple of choices available. Parental units had some of the pub's fresh-brewed beers on tap -- a syrupy, dark, very high-test beer that was pitch dark and awesome (black walnuts are part of the mix), and a raspberry wheat that was fruity and cooling without being icky sweet. Cheese curds were an experience (unusual but tasty); desert brownie incorporated one of the summer beers and was baked to order. Tasted kind of like the carob brownies we left behind in the 70s. Lovely ice creams available; we chose to split another summer brew. Despite other reviews, we had attentive and swift service (and our waitress was patient with our questions!) And later, we watched our waitress, amused, help a bunch of about 15 people clustered around a four-seat round put together more tables and chairs so that group could sit together and relax. Turns out it wasn't even her station. Staff seemed to cooperate with each other to keep things moving along. We will definitely go back on a return visit to Athens, and I'd heartily recommend it to you. (And if you are an East Coaster, you will be pleasantly surprised by the prices....)
