“Save Room For Dessert”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 5, 2013

Place was packed as usual. Service was great, offerings very Italian- very good. We all enjoyed the Fiesta appetizer- a sampling of many of their apps. I highly recommend the Focaccia Caprese. The kids enjoyed traditional spaghetti, my husband and I split an entree: the Seabass special. It was good, vegetables a little under cooked though. A bit pricey for Italian too- and as I mentioned, we didn't order as much as usual.

Small locale, good air conditioning, parking lot could use some help- large puddles in a gravel lot. Wheelchair guest had some trouble entering from a side door, but they looked like regulars. We seemed out of place with the kids, older crowd that night.

Dessert was probably the best part- we ordered 3 and split them all. Tiramisu is one of my favorite desserts, but it was not good here. It came in a bowl and you could tell it had been refrigerated for a while or frozen and thawed witht he amount of water that was in the bottom. Disappointing. Kids loved the pistachio cheesecake and the Cream Bomba.

For all the hype we keep hearing, thought it would be stellar, but it was just alright.

“Authentic Italian in Ashatbula!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013

My family vacations on the lake near Ashtabula every summer and good food never used to be a part of the experience. We resolved to just BBQ and eat at home which was always good but sometimes you just don't feel like cooking on vacation... which meant we would go in search of mediocre local fare. Then a few years ago we found Alessandro's and it wasn't just a good place to eat while at the lake... it is some of the best Italian we have had anywhere! Alessandro is a trained chef from Sicily, who married a local woman, and he cooks every single meal himself! My favorite dish is no longer on the menu but he indulges us every time, Linguini della casa... linguini noodles with porcini mushrooms in a gorgonzola cream sauce. The sauce is not heavy and we normally add chicken although we had to initially convince him as chefs don't like it when you change their recipes... silly Americans!! He has daily specials including excellent sea food. The desserts are equally scrumdiddlyiscious and all authentic Italian! The lemon ice in a real lemon rind is the perfect ending to a meal... or just go straight for the limoncello. We usually order 3 or 4 desserts and share the love... including tiramisu and a selection of the Bombas. The restaurant is very small but since Alessandro cooks every meal I don't think he is going for size, this place is definitely based on quality over quantity. He did recently add a small addition but instead of adding a ton more tables, he only added a couple and spread out the ones that were there making the place the perfect size and very comfortable. Overall a wonderful authentic Italian experience in an unexpected location.

“Just Needs a Littel Fine Tuning”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

We live down the street from the restaurant and heard how good it was so we had guests in from out of town and decided to go. Even though it was a Saturday night in peek season we did not have to wait and I am sure it was because we arrived at 6:30pm. The hostess and waitress were very friendly and accommodating. We started with appetizers (a combo plate) that was very good - the brushetta was particularly good. We had differnt entrees and while 3 out of 4 were very good, the 4th which was a veal dish was terribly overcooked and therefore tough, but it did have good flavor. My husband's lasagna was very good but a small portion. Two of us had a shrimp and mussels in a white wine sauce over lingunini that was very, very good. We got 2 desserts to take home and they were wondeful. Our table was visited by the chef's wife who was delightful. If the veal had been up to par and the lasagna a little larger then we would have given this 5 stars!!!

“Not what it clames”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Though the menu suggests a much higher class restaurant, the premises and decor leave a lot to be desired, resembling an old road house more so than a fine dining establishment. The salad that comes with their entree consists of some coarsely chopped Romaine and a small wedge of tomato, drizzled in one of 3 choices of dressing. A poor start wouldn't you say. The entree itself was cooked well enough(I had roast duck in a shallot and orange sauce and it was accompanied by some garden peas and 1 small red potato. Sadly, the orange sauce was absent also, at least there was no discernible orange flavor, but there was plenty of shallots. Service was ok though so it wasn't all bad. Not somewhere I feel the need to return to any time soon.

“Italian food at its best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

What a great Italian restaurant!!! We frequent this place quite often and are always amazed at the food Alessandro prepares.
He prepares each dish individually and it is always a treat.
