I needed a place to stay for one night in Akron, Ohio. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, but I didn't want to stay in a place that was not safe or a place that had dirty sheets. This place barely fit that description. I decided on this hotel because of the price and location (it is near a major highway, and there are lots of restaurants and lots of shopping very close by).
I checked in at about 5:15pm and pulled my car around to the entrance closest to my room. I had to use my keycard to get into the building. I walked up the stairs (no elevators here) to get to my second floor room. The staircase was in need of a paint job, and the carpeting was very dirty and worn. When I got to the second floor, there were all kinds of laundry and laundry carts in the hall, and two chambermaids were still working. My room was ready, so I went in (my key worked the first time).
Getting into my room, I immediately pulled back the covers on the bed and checked for clean sheets, then inspected the bathroom and towels. They were clean, but I had noticed crumbs the size of croutons on the floor between the bed and the nightstand. I decided I was going to try to overlook them because it was only one night. The room was very cold, so I turned on the heater before going to dinner. The air duct on the heater needed to be cleaned badly.
I came back from dinner and the room was incredibly hot, so I turned off the heater (it did not have a thermostat). I was able to get a wireless internet signal in my room, so I was happy. I also noticed the room was pretty quiet - people were not running up and down the halls, and I didn't hear any doors slamming. This just may have been luck though, because I noticed the parking lot was almost empty.
I had to get up during the night a few times to turn the heater on and off, but other than that I slept well until 6:30am. The fire alarm went off, but it was more of a buzz than a loud alarm. I am not a heavy sleeper or a light sleeper, but it just barely woke me up. The fire department came and turned it off, then then turned it on again for about 10 seconds to test it (I had called the front desk after the second time to see what was going on).
Over all, the hotel needs more care, cleaning, and updating, but for $59 plus tax a night it wasn't too bad. I was safe and my linens were clean. I put up with the place because I didn't want to spend more, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.
