We had a seventh floor room and yes it was a little smelly, but opening the balcony door took care of that and also allowed for the relaxing sound of the ocean. Great views, the balcony overlooking the ocean and the hallway views of the sound. Right on the oceanfront with chairs that you can rent, free ones for the kids. The restaurant has great food, especially the hushpuppies. Service was really good too. There is a poolside bar that serves snacks as well as drinks(hot dogs for $1). The pool is small but the adjoining spa was really relaxing while watching the full moon rise. The lounge served a variety of great tasting drinks with a live DJ, dance floor( disco ball not included) and pool table. The hotel was clean and the staff was very nice and will definitely go again during the winter so we can watch the sunrise and sunset on the ocean. Definitely worth the money!

We have just returned from our trip in which we drove down the coast of North Carolina. We stayed in three different hotels along the way and the Clamdigger was by far the worst! What attracted us to the Clamdigger was the views. Each room does have a beautiful view of the ocean however, the poor conditions inside the hotel detract from the views. The worst is the terrible smell! Everywhere...the room, the lobby and the resturant...smells of thick stale smoke. The carpeting was dirty, frayed, and worn throughout the hotel. The elevators were filthy and smelled terribly. The bathroom in our room was small and dated. The smoke detector in our room had been pulled from the wall and was hanging by its wires. There were dirty dishes sitting on the floor outside our room from the previous occupants when we arrived and were not removed for two days. The housekeeping staff banged on the door at 9:00am on Sunday morning wanting to clean the room. Overall, the Clamdigger feels old, dirty and worn down. It could be a really great place if they did did some cleaning and remodeling. There are many other hotels along the coast that offer the great views of the ocean. We will not go back to the Clamdigger.

This was our first of many-to-come stays at the clamdigger. It was fantastic. If you are staying in a hotel instead of a beach house, the clamdigger is, without question, the place to stay. It is the nicest hotel in the area, w/ it's only real competition being the Sheraton (which upon inspection did not measure up to the clamdigger). The beaches are immaculate and you can rent a set of chairs and an umbrella for the entire day for only $8. This is a small price to pay to not have to fuss w/ the hassle of bringing your own chairs and plus you get the added benefit of the umbrella if the sun gets to be too much. The pool bar sells hot dogs for only $1 a dog if u want a quick mid day snack. The hotel restaurant is very good and has some nice views of the water. Another great restaurant that is nearby (about 7 miles away) is the Channel Marker. It sits right on the water as you come over the bridge from Moorehead city to Atlantic Beach. Their views of the intracoastal waterway and ambience can't be matched. If you go to the Channel Marker, get the crabcakes....they are one of their specialties and are the best crabcakes i had ever tasted. Finally, if u get the chance, i highly recommend going across the bridge to Beaufort. It is a beautiful little town with some unique shops and lots of charm. VERY IMPORTANT: You have to have lunch at the Beaufort Grocery Co. It is on queen street. It is FANTASTIC! Great atmosphere and cuisine to match. If you've come this far, then maybe your willing to come a little farther. The cape lookout lighthouse is only a short way off from beaufort. It is on an esentially untouched island that has some of the most beautiful beaches in the area. It makes for a nice day or a nice couple of hours. For $10 per person (adult fee) you get a fun boat ride (15 minutes) over to the island and pickup whenever u desire. Most of the ferry services to cape lookout leave from Harkers island. Enjoy your stay.....i hope this info was useful.

  • Liked — All rooms are ocean front. Beaches are immaculately clean.

This was our first stay at the Clamdigger, although we've been going to Atlantic Beach for years. We absolutely love this place & can't wait to return soon. We felt right at home. There's a great view from every room - they're all oceanfront. Everything is very well maintained and clean. There's a wonderful restaurant on site (the locals come here just to dine, which is a good sign). We were glad to see it's health rating was 101%. It was so nice to walk down from the room, have breakfast & just charge it to our room account - Very convenient. The beach is wide and white. There's a long row of chairs & umbrellas you can reserve for the day. The pool is right by the beach. There's a little tiki bar where you can order drinks and food while you're at the pool or the beach. You're within easy driving distance of downtown Atlantic Beach, Morehead City, Beaufort & Emerald Isle. There's great shopping & dining at all of these locals. The great thing is, you never have to leave the Clamdigger, unless you want to. Everything you need is there. Perfect for families; although, we had a wonderful time as a couple. You can't beat the price!

We just returned from a weekend getaway at the Clamdigger Inn. It was wonderful. The perfect place for a couple or a family to spend a weekend or a week. The staff was pleasant and helpful. Food was great. We stayed on the 7th floor. The view was wonderful. They have everything you need right there.
Your on the beach, with a pool and hot tub. Lounge and restaurant on premises. Pool bar outside by the pool selling anything you want or need.
The weather was great.
I had not been to the area in about 20 years. I will be back and will stay at the Clamdigger Inn. It was a wonderful experience. The rooms were nice with fridge, microwave and a real king size bed. No noise coming from the rooms around you either.
Thanks for a wonderful stay. See you soon.
