“Excellent Vacation Getaway”

Atlantis Lodge

Aug 8, 2008

August 4-7 '08
My 2 teenage sons, my mom and I stayed at your hotel. Very clean, very nice, very friendly. My sons enjoyed the "game room", we all enjoyed the beautiful pool and the beauty only God could create at the beach. It was the first time in over 25+ years that we have stayed at a hotel at the beach, just sold family owned place at Goose Creek. I went online to find a place on the beach and loved your website, this looked like a new and wonderful place to stay. We called and booked a room. When we arrived, the room was just like the website showed and stated. Perfect ! It was so great to wake up in the mornings after a good night sleep, go out on the poarch and watch the sunrise and listen to the ocean waves. I loved to watch the birds in the natural area behind our room, we even saw rabbits. They loved the bird seed that you provided. Our room was very spacious, two double beds, pullout sofa, two chairs, dinning area/kitchenette, large bathroom as well as a dressing area/closet. The dividers to separate the beds into rooms were great with two teenage boys. We all had room and privacy if and when needed. All the staff were friendly and helpful. I would and will recommend the Atlantis Lodge to family and friends and well as strangers. Thanks for your part in making a vacation wonderful.

Well, were back home after another week of great weather and fun in the Crystal Coast. Our family (2 boys aged 12 and 10) visited the Atlantis numerous time in the last 10 years and we were never disappointed by the location and staff.

Pine Knoll Shores is not Virginia Beach or Myrtle Beach. You will not find amusement park or boardwalk. What you will find is peace and quiet on a nice barrier island where the water temp. reaches the mid-80's and where the ocean breeze makes it comfortable (or you can cool down in the nice pool too). There are enough activities for young children to keep them occupied for a few days. The little town of Beaufort is worth a visit. Do not miss the tour of Shackleford Bank were you will see some very interesting horses up-close. The Civil War era Macon fort at the eastern end of the island is also worth a visit. At least 3 miniature golf are within a few minute drives from the Atlantis and a Food Lion is nearby.

The Lodge dates from the early 60’s and has a nice retro look with updated amenities. Everything was to our liking and we felt “at home” while we were there. We drove almost 17 hours to get to North-Carolina because we are sure to find the Lodge the same way we left it the last time and the water is just wonderful.

Merci beaucoup

We recently stayed at the Atlantis Lodge. We chose this location b/c it allowed pets and also it got many good reviews. Well, we were sadly disappointed by our stay. From the photos, the place looked pretty "retro" and had potential to be neat...well, it was definitely retro, meaning, I don't think they have put any money into repairs or renovations since the 1950s! Oh, they have added a flat screen TV, which is about it for updates. They must make a fortunate on this place and owe it to their customers to spend a little money fixing it up...i.e. replacing rotting wood; updating furniture, especially the very small double beds, which are extremely uncomfortable; painting; adding a fan to the stuffy bathroom; etc. etc. We also were disappointed in the size of the "bedroom"...we rented what we thought was a suite-like set-up, so that our baby could have the bedroom area and we could stay up past his bedtime & naptime...well, the "bedroom" only fit the small bed, and was separated from the living area by an accordian wall. The only positive thing that I can say about the Atlantis Lodge, is that it does have a very charming pool w/ waterfall and baby pool, and the ocean is a few steps away...we were having fun as long as we weren't in our room! They do offer complimentary chairs and umbrellas on the beach, which is a nice touch. But please, do some much needed renovations to the rooms!

As the General Manager of the Atlantis (and daughter of the owners A.C. and Dot Hall) I must say that we were very hurt by the harsh comments you placed on TripAdvisor recently. You knew that everyone who visited our website would see it. We have comment cards in the rooms so our guests can share their thoughts. We wish you had shared your thoughts with us rather than bashing us on our own website. Our guests, most of them repeat guests, let us know when they find something that needs repair. They don’t go on the web and intentionally try to damage our reputation. As you said in the first line of your review, you chose the Atlantis because we are pet friendly. We are the only hotel/motel on the ocean that allows pets. We also only charge $15.00 a night for a pet which is, as you well know, a great price. It costs more than that to board a pet! I was the one who spoke with Michelle to make the reservation and as she knows I allowed you to book for only 2 nights instead of 3 since you called to make the reservation 2 days before you came. Every property on the ocean requires a 3 night minimum in the summertime. I could have easily made you pay for 3 nights. Please allow me to respond to your remarks... You said the place looked like we had not put any money into repairs or renovations since the 1950’s. Not that it’s any of your business, but we spent $514,429.91 last year alone on new furniture, carpet, etc. and on major repairs. Not to mention the 2 full time maintenance men that are on payroll that do minor repairs and painting. This fall we are replacing most of the double beds with queen size beds. See, we do listen to our guests. That has been a big request that we are fulfilling. We do not have fans in our bathrooms because there are windows in all of the bathrooms. We are sorry you were disappointed in the size of the room. We have videos and photos of all of the rooms on our website so that our guests can see in advance what to expect. We are glad you liked the pool and the beach chairs. Thankfully, about 32,999 folks stayed here last year and loved us!

My family and I love the Atlantis Lodge. We do not have any animals and very much respect the owners for letting pets stay but making sure every one of thier guest stay is a pleasent one. I think the Atlantis is the best kept secret in Atlantic Beach! If we cant get a room at the Atlantis we stay home!!

“Bad Situation”

Atlantis Lodge

We have stayed at the Atlantis several times over the past year; however, we will never return. We were treated as what I consider "criminal" and were found guilty without doubt. The owners charged into our room, and were very rude, arrogant, discourteous and took the word of one person over 4 professional people. We were charged with our animals barking, which I have no problem with, IF they were. But the gentleman next to us told us that they had barked all the day before, etc. and we were not even there on the day in question.

So, if you are going there, I hope your dog never barks, you never question another guest's remarks and you are ready to be insulted and treated like a common criminal.

I'm still angry and appalled at the way we were treated. We left the facility and as I said before we will never go back.

If you go, get a muzzle for your pet and yourself!

We are very sad that these folks had a bad experience with us. It's a very long story so we won't go into it. We do, however, regret that their two poodles disturbed several of our guests with their barking. Everyone knows there are two sides to every story. I just want to say that we did not ask them to leave. They left on their own. We understand that not everyone is going to love us. We're just thankful that so many people do.
