We really enjoyed our stay at the Atlantis. We had a great view of the ocean--make sure you book rooms on the second or third story. Great retro feel in our room. Really nice beach to walk on and go swimming. We enjoyed all the dogs too.

The Atlantis still has spectacular views and the lovely maritime forest that is finally growing back, I heard, from a severe pruning early this year. The grounds are beautiful. The pet policy is wonderful for pet owners. If only all the pet owners were more mindful of cleaning up after their pets!! The rising rates suggest a more up scale property.

Room Tip: upper floors, end rooms

Thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. I wish I knew how to get all of our guests to pick up after their pets! Any suggestions? I've actually thought about installing security cameras! Nothing is worse than walking your dog at night and stepping in a pile of poop!
It's funny to me that some people think they are above picking up poop :) That's just part of being a responsible dog owner. I've tried to make it easier by putting scoops all around the property. They don't even have to touch it! Just scoop and toss in the bushes! It doesn't get any easier than that!
Hope you come back to see us soon!

My wife found this hotel on our way to the Sieger show in Va. We have to stay at a Pet friendly Hotel as we have a 2 year old German Shepherd Show dog. We arrived and checked in to the hotel, we found our room(Hotel Staff showed us where our room was) The room was very clean and tidy with modern amenities, but had a certain flair about it. Retro?? I grew up in the mid 70's and it was just a perfect room. They even had a biscuit for my pup. The view out the sliding back door was fantastic not to mention you can hear the ocean, The grounds are very well kept and wonderfully manicured, and we just had a really great time, so on our way back from Va. we made reservations for another night. This is our new favorite hideaway ! When I return from Afghanistan we will be back for sure !

Room Tip: We stayed on the right hand side 1st floor. Same room both times.

We love to travel with our dog. Pet friendly properties at the beach are hard to find. This place not only welcomes pets but plans for them. Scoops placed around the landscaping encourages owners to pick up after their dogs in an environmentally friendly way. Our room was just the right size for 2 people and a pet with a killer view of the ocean from the deck. We enjoyed our stay and will return.

Room Tip: We stayed second floor in the center complex to the north and had a great ocean view. Third would b...

We agree with you that pet places are hard to find on the beach and we are pleased to provide you with one of those places. Some areas have time constraints of when pets are allowed on the beach, especially during the Summer months. That is not the case in the town we are in. Pets just have to be on a leash and owners clean behind them and they can enjoy fun in the sun with their 'parents'! We have one size pet-friendly room that accommodates up to 4 people and 2 pets and another size pet-friendly room that accommodates up to 6 people and 2 pets. Pet-friendly rooms can be found on all three floors of the lodge and all have kitchen areas, but glad you were able to try one of the local restaurants for seafood. We will look forward to your return!

This is the place to be if you want to be right on the edge of the ocean, lie in bed, and listen to the waves. We spent a restful, peaceful weekend here in summer and hope to be back. The beach is literally right outside the property and is so wonderfully calming.

The motel room style is retro-funky, with furniture that would probably fit on a "Mad Men" set.

The hotel is dog-friendly, so if you don't like dogs, this is probably not the place for you.

The very slight complaints I'd have about the property are a) the carpet in the room, which has probably seen better days and should be replaced; and b) the vertical blinds, which are stiff and not easy to operate. If the owners upgraded these, the place would be perfect.

The thing about the ocean we seem to love most is the calming effect the sound brings, the smell of the salt air, and the cool relief it provides in the warmer months of the year. The Fall provides fabulous purple, orange and red sunsets! There are so many positives to say about the beach no matter what time of the year you visit! Pets are like our 'extended family' here at the Atlantis Lodge, but we have many people who enjoy the same things you did, without having pets who are like 'extended family' also. We have surely noted your ideas about the things that need attention and we do alot of renovations during the time we are closed in the month of December. Thank you for your input and we hope to see you in the upcoming season!

I have been staying at the Atlantis Lodge for years, and it has always been one of my favorite places to stay. Over the years I have seen updates and improvements (the pool was a fabulous addition), yet the staff and owners have never lost that special quality that makes you feel welcome and relaxed. The grounds are immaculate, and the landscaping has always been beautiful and eco-sensitive, even before that was "cool"! The resort is pet friendly, which is great, yet, amazingly, I have never gone into a room and been able to tell that a pet was there before me. I don't know how they do that, but I love it! Best of all worlds. Many of the rooms have kitchenettes, so you can stock up during your stay and never have to leave if you don't want to. The beach is so gorgeous, and there are no better beach umbrellas on the planet! On the 3rd floor there is a large lounge area with games, TV and books and an incredible view of the ocean. The Atlantis Lodge really is the best place to stay on the Crystal Coast. We would never stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: We love the 3rd floor, but there is no elevator so you must be willing to carry your stuff up the st...

My sisters & I recently gathered from various U.S. points to retrace our eastern NC roots. Atlantic Beach was the scene for many family vacations, so we searched for a spot for a 2-night weekday stay. Since renting a cottage is prohibitive for such a short period, our No. #1 driver for this excursion was oceanfront location. The Sheraton is currently closed for renovation due to hurricane damage, and we weren't impressed with other properties. Room 312 at the Atlantis met all of our needs- comfortable beds, kitchenette, and best of all- a killer ocean view! The deck was spacious enough for us all to sit outside without being cramped, and the mid-century modern table in the kitchenette let us take in the view as we dined. The scale of the property is very nice- it doesn't overwhelm the landscape, and the plantings and bird feeders draw plenty of local birds. While none of us brought pets, it was fun to pet Cody for a bit of pet therapy. The staff was very friendly & attentive to our needs. We were well pleased with our stay.

Room Tip: Room 312 has a superb ocean view!

It is so wonderful that you and your sisters could get together for even the briefest of times, let alone be able to share fond memories of family vacations here in the Atlantic Beach area. You had a great room with 312 and it is a favorite of many. Thank you for noticing the things so many people take for granted! Our 'official greeter' Cody loves all the attention he gets and loves everyone in return! Maybe you girls can do this as a yearly thing!?
