We just got back from the NC Zoo in Asheboro. It was great. We only went one day and only saw the Africa part. We chose to go to Africa first because when they opened, everyone went to N. America! The parking lot was full by the end of the day and not anywhere near as busy as Africa.
It is a beautiful zoo. Unique in comparison to others. The animals are so happy in their natural habitat. The walk between exhibits is about 8 minutes each and it is like walking in a very hilly forest. Lots of shade. Lots of hills. I would recommend getting an ECV if you are disabled.
The zoo would definately take two days to see all, and I would recommend not going in the summer! Crowds were low on a Sunday the end of September, and it was a great, fun day. The zoo was more like a nature preserve. It is not like you traditional zoo with lots of exhibits and lots of animals to just walk around and see. We didn't see too many animals that day.
In Africa you have to walk 2 miles to see all the animals and you have to walk 3 miles in N. America.
The aviary was incredible. I have never seen so many beautiful plants and trees. You wouldn't even know you were indoors!
We can't wait to go back and do the other half!!!
