My girlfriend (28) and I (27) stayed at the Isil Club Bodrum in mid May 08 for one week. We were looking for a week's worth of relaxing in a good quality 4 star hotel that wasn't situated in the middle of a busy town, not too noisy and yet next to the sea. This hotel met all of the above.
Check in / Staff:- We arrived at 3am so didn't expect to see many people around. Wrong. Reception was fully manned, our bags were carried to the room for us and they kept a small bar open for a tea / coffee etc. The friendliness of the staff was evident throughout the holiday where 90% of them spoke good or broken English and we did not come across any that weren't walking around smiling all the time! Just a note to add here, I have never been to a hotel where staff nearly outnumber guests!
Rooms:- We had a ground floor room with a garden view (if returning I would request a second floor room for private balcony). The room was very spacious, clean and modern. The decor was quite minimilistic with some bright colours chucked in for good measure. Free safe in each room where you choose the PIN of your choice, plenty of towels and also a fairly decent hairdryer. The TV had 2 English channels one of which was BBC World so handy to catch up with goings on at home. Minibar is stocked up with the first drinks free and replacements chargeable (not expensive).
Food :- Breakfast was served 7:30am til 10am and consisted of cereals, meats, and hot food suited more to continental Europe so no fry ups! Lunch and Dinner were both served in the main restaurant and on the whole were quite similar to each other. A huge selection of fresh salads, bread, meats, rice, potatoes, pizza, pasta, chips, grilled meats & fish and more cakes or sweets than you could imagine. I defy anyone to go and not find something they like, even the fussiest of eaters. A snack bar is also open pool side serving burgers, chips, pizza, kebab meat. 2 a la carte restaurants Fish and Mexican. We personally didn't try the fish restaurant but the setting was lovely. If only staying fro one week I wouldn't bother with the Mexican as I don't recall it being very Mexican at all. on the whole though was excellent.
Drink :- drinks served from early morning until 1am. Beers on offer are Efes and Becks, both cool and crisp perfect for the hot weather. Tea and Coffe left a little to be desired but not unusual on holiday. All soft drinks were the real mccoy brands and you can take large or small bottles of water when you like which are all kept in the freezer so ice cold. Red wine was ok but the Rose is probaly best avoided.
Pool :- The pool was very large, clean and situated perfectly. Surrounded by sunbeds that we never once had trouble reserving at all time of the day. If you don't fancy laying poolside then there are expansive grounds in the shad where you can relax or on the sea front either on the very samll man made beach, one of 4 decked areas with steps into the water or on cushions out on the jetty. As the hotel is in quite a secluded area the bay is quite tranquil and personally my favourite part of the hotel. They do play music most of the day but not loud and nothing to lively. The views from the front is good for a photo opportunity.
Entertainment :- Pool games and other bit's going on all day but no real pressure from the animation team to join in. Water aerobics twice a day, water polo and football also daily. Pool tables, table tennis and tennis courts available free throughout the day also. Live music twice a week and both singers / bands were excellent well worth watching in the main lounge area. This is a small arena near the entrance to the hotel were the team perform cabaret and other acts. This is more suited for kids I would say though.
Spa Centre :- looked nice but very expensive for what it is and much better alternatives in near by Bodrum or Gumbet. The Turkish bath, Hamman is a must so don't come home without one. The gym connected to the Spa looked quite expansive also.
TV Room :- Large plasma TV for any sporting events on at the time. We watched Champions League Final and Monaco grand prix and reception is happy to arrange for you.
Hotel Location :- As mentioned above the hotel is situated in an area quite secluded so if you want to travel into Torba (5 mins) Bodrum (10 mins) Gumbet (15 mins) it's not difficult. Local Dolmus Bus stops at hotel and is very cheap (2 TRY). A cab office is also located just outside the hotel. Reception will arrange for you and provide maps of local towns and points of interest. If you are looking to go to Dalyman, Pumakule, Ephseus the bear in mind that this area is over 3 hours away from any of them.
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel and got the rest we were looking for. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good quality 4 star hotel where you can relax and unwind.
