“not a five star!!!!!!!!”

Grand Newport

Sep 8, 2008

Ok, so its definately not the 4/5 star as advertised- but it could be worse.
The main problem is food and the stairs-
The hotel was always clean, rooms cleaned- pool area and hotel was always being cleaned. The rooms were nice and spacious, bathrooms are all clean and modern.
Hotel staff were fine- limited english- but you are in their country and after a lot of being nice to them will try and help you with what you need, spare a thought and a tip if you can- to the poor guy who carries your suitcases- the stairs are a mission even without a case and he is up and down all the time- this hotel is not suitable if you have any difficulty walking- we made sure we took everything we needed up for the day as to far keep going up and down.
One tip is as you cant leave key card to keep air -con on all day- cut a piece of card up to fit as keeps room cool all day

The main issue is the food- which is as everybody has already mentioned - POOR
everything is just slop in sauce- the odd meal you can eat but normally cold and limited choice- best night is kebab night on saturday.
If they sorted the food- just a couple of better meat choices and kept it warm hotel would be fine

“Judge for yourself! (It is good though!)”

Grand Newport

Sep 8, 2008

It was really hard to decide whether to stay at this hotel because of all the mixed reviews on here but you should judge it for yourself just like we did.

We arrived home yesterday and had a great time. We were very relieved when being dropped off at this hotel compared to the hotels we passed on the way! It may be at the top of the hill but there is a dolmus bus which passes by every 5-10 mins to take you wherever you need to go for about 2 lira (1 pound a go)

Fair enough there are a lot of stairs to the room where we were at the bottom but at the end of the day we didn't really mind and could do with the exercise!! The staff carry your cases as well at any time so don't worry about that. If you do really want to be moved though have your rep speak to the manager and they will happily move you if they are not full.

Food was really nice as there was a good selection of chicken, red meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. There was plenty of salad and a great selection of puds! The only thing that may be difficult though is food for kids but its a good place to educate their pallets.
In between lunch and dinner is a snack bar which serves burgers and chips if you are feeling peckish.
I don't understand why some people were disappointed with the food as your in Turkey after all!

All inclusive drinks include vodka, gin, raki, wine, beer and soft drinks anything international and past 11pm you had to pay for which is usually indicated when buying the holiday.
Drinks weren't watered down but if you do find them a bit weak the barmen don't have any problem in topping them up as we found out and are in large cups and not plastic.
The small plastic cups are used for soft drinks only and if you want more just order 2! ( Something to do with being easier to tidy up - fair enough)

The rooms were clean and tidy, good bathrooms with powerful showers and were cleaned everyday and towels were replaced regularly and ther a/c worked great and the doors locked fine but i'm sure some people have problems. (prev review)
There is a safe in every room for a small fee of about 15 pound to keep your passports in etc. Nothing went missing apart from my shoes but that was totally my fault!!!

Staff were all really friendly and looked after everyone and they will quite happily carry you down the stairs if you are a bit worse for wear like my friend one night.
The staff love children and they will always make time for them which was sweet.

Entertainment was ok, something was going on every night Haken (entertainment guy) tries to get people up and join in which was sometimes a pain but i guess he's just doing his job!
Daytime was the same with water polo and volleyball etc

We went in to Gumbet most nights and found this good, plenty of bars and clubs to go to but try to barter for the booze to as some bars try their luck although dancing on the bar seems to work!

All in all we had a really good time and would recommend this hotel to all types of people. If you don't have stupidly high expectations this is the place to go!

Hello this review is intended for those who usually go on nice holidays but are thinking of making the mistake of going to turkey because it was cheap.

Arrived in the middle of the night, porter could not find room.

Room was not much a/c not working, no safe key, balcony door would not lock.

Swimming pool filthy, plant being watered with pool water and were ok (no chloride in it then obvousily), cleaners ( if you call them that ) seen wringing mops in pool overflow.

Food, eat in restaurant once, found it cold, covered in flies, so poor eat out every day.

Staff, rude, smelly, did not change clothes all week.

In short, i honestly do not know how anyone can write, what would even come close to a nice review, and if you have booked to go, DONT!!!!!!!

“had a great time at the grand newport”

Grand Newport

Sep 1, 2008

Hi all,

Got back from the grand newport on the 25th aug, this is our second visit to the hotel and we enjoyed it the second time as well as the first. There are a lot of the staff that are still the same Haken the entertainer, and the photographer. The food as last time is a little bit repititive but there is always something to put on your plate, while we was there we met a fair few couples and familys, such as Dawn/Mo and Ronnie, Mandy Derek and Sacha and also H/Cab and Nisha and many more while we was there. The pool was really nice and the area was also very good views, the only thing around the pool which was dangerous was where the water drained away, but while we was there they re-fitted it with new tiles. Also watch it guys when you walk out of the loo's I smacked my head on the marbel stairs. It was my fault i should it have been watching where i was going, but to be honest should have some surrounding around the steps so you dont walk into it. A must while your at the hotel is the boat trip, myself girlfriend and my son Callum paid £25 in total and that was from 10am till 6pm and lunch included. Watch it though at camel bay drop of point, there drinks costs ££££ so be careful. Air con worked really well in rooms also maid cleaned rooms on daily basis. My last words are for Haken he does get some stick on reviews but he has been there for some years now and we remember him from last time, he might have a big ego but hey he has a lot to do to entertain everyone there, and sometimes its hard to get people to get up and have fun, so i think his a good bloke, he tries hard and when playing water polo he always wants to win but the english always won!!!! well sometimes anyway. we will return to Grand Newport in the next couple of years so hopefully it wont have changed to much till then. Thanks for reading our review, Hopefully H you didnt have to pay to much for your nuts!!! LOL!!

Cheers Marc Lindsey and Callum.xx

“lovely!!!”

Grand Newport

Aug 28, 2008

Just returned from the Newport after a great week. Hotel looks very impressive as you pull up & all round is very clean. Staff were helpful, our cases were carried up to our room which was really appreciated! Only down side to the room was the carpets, in other hotels, tiles cool you down.
Pool was great & clean, no rushing down at 7am for beds, most people come down for about 8.30-9am
Staff were generally very good. There were some that really friendly (Marten & reception girls) The poolside bar staff and most of the waiters (liverpool) but there was one we called mr.Grumpy at the main bar.. he was overworked, still im on holiday so please pull a smile on.
The animation team ;Hakan & Himself & his magnificent ego (lol) did work hard to get all involved during the day but the evenings could be better, best nite is Turkish nite.
The food was fine for us, plenty of fresh fruit/ salad & variety of continental food, and burger and chips for the fussy but dont let the food put you off.
the only down side to our holiday (be wary of letting females go for a massage)..not a good experience on my last day...down stairs in sauna area
its a great little hotel & we met some great people; Thanks Mark, Lyndsey & Callum (evil twins) lol it was great hanging out.,send you the pics soon!!
