“Basic guys! End of!"”

Grand Newport

Aug 27, 2008

VERY BASIC!!!

The truth, myself and my girlfriend went to the Grand Newport expecting a lavish time, but quite frankly it wasnt.

Expect stairs not jst a few, but 7 flights of normal stairs in your home. Hope ur fit!

Food same, same and same as always!!! Staff at rec. not good.

Entertainment shocking or what entertainment???

Fantastic views, Lovely pool area... but this is not acceptable for the basics you do get! 10mins walk to gumbert centre.

4 or a 5* hotel its just not..... i wanted a luxury holiday n it spoilt my time. MOON PALACE MEXICO if you want something

In my opinion PAY for what you get!

“will not stay there again not good”

Grand Newport

Aug 14, 2008

Hi me and my husband stayed here for 15 days on an a/i holiday it was the worst i have ever stayed at and will not be going back there ,i love turkey but the grand newport does not deserve the word grand the staff at reception are not good, however the staff round the pool area cant do enough for you.the food is the same every day and to say its a/i is a laugh you can only get gin beer or vodka up to 11.00pm after that you have to pay an extortionate amount of money. as look had it we met some really nice people there and had a laugh when we went out. so if you want a 4 star which it is supposed to be then dont go there.very dissapointing holiday.in our country it would not even make a 2 star, yet if they got there act together it could be a fantastic place.

grand new port gumbet, turkey
Aug 10, 2008

i went to turkey for the 5th time last week and really enjoyed my stay. originally i was supposed to be in another hotel however due to double booking i got moved to grand newport. i was traveling with 5 others including my dad and brothers (i am only 13) when we arrived in our hotel the reception staff were very polite and took us straight to our rooms, helping us carry our suitcases.

rooms: between the 6 of us we had 3 rooms. the rooms were equiped with a fridge, air conditioning, and a T.V. the room service was ok but could have been a little better. the rooms had no balcony or anything to hang out wet towels. the journey from the room to the pool consisted of 108 steps up which was hard work in the scorching sun.

food: the food was not brilliant. i rarely made it to breakfast after late nights. but lunch was enjoyable with lots of options of salads and puddings. hot food and meat could have been better with ,prehaps, more options. after lunch there was the burger bar
which served burgers with salad and chips. i enjoyed eating these! after burgers there was cakes. this was a small variety of biscuits and cakes. however, if u left it too long then little birds might come along and help eat it. dinner could have done with more hot options. again the salads and pudding were nice. puddings consisted of sweet cakes and healthy fruit.

pool: the pool was a lovely pool with a baby pool next to it. water activities took place during the day in the deep end. Some of the drains around the pool where a little smelly.

resources: on site there was a hair dressers, gym, mini shop, turkish baths, ping pong and a doctor on call. you could also pay to play pool/ snooker.

entertainment: the entertainment was poor and in the evenings we went out alot. in the town there was many bars and shops. the high street was a walkable distance from teh hotel.

overall i really enjoyed the holiday and WOULD reccomend to most people. maybe not O.A.P's becasue of all the steps.

We were booked origanally into crystal beach in bodrum but when we arrived some guy pretending to be our rep told us our company had gone bust (LIES) This was just the start of what was to become a hoilday from hell. We were moved to grand newport at our own expense. We orignally thought we had landed on our feet when we arrived but that shows how much looks can be deceiving, The hotel looks beautiful and the views are amazing - they actually take your breath when you look at them.

We were given a room in the hotel upstairs which on first inspection we thought was great quite roomy, large bed, kids on camp beds in corner of room, but on further inspection nothing was really cleaned properly. I have never found it necessary to write a bad review on somewhere before but on reading some of the most recent reviews i people need to be warned before they go as to what is really in store for them.

Three days into our hoilday, money went missing from our room and on further inspection other things had gone too. When we reported this, some of the things were returned, but not all, and not so much of an apology from any one and furthermore the maid continued to work in the hotel. For the rest of the hoilday we cleaned our own room and changed our own towels from the cuboards outside our room and left a do not disturb on our door.

Whilst speaking to other hoilday makers we also discovered that they to had been booked into other hotels and moved to the grand newport, some were also told by the same guy as us that he was their rep - you just get the feeling that there is some kind of scam going on between the hotels which made us very uneasy as we had travelled with two young children. We were due to stay for two weeks and at the end of the first week were told to check out - more stress as we tried to resolve this.

Getting on to the food - when people say that you are in turkey so you should expect to try something different, well if there was something different to try we surely would - but after eating cheese and tomato for two weeks you can understand why people were getting bored, As a well travelled family, we have eaten all over the world and never have we been faced with the same food for evey meal service sometimes turning up at next meal service coverd in ketchup,to say that at the end of our stay we felt like crying when we went in to the meal service is an understatement. When at home we do not eat roast beef and yorkshire pudding every day, so why because you are in turkey some people think you should eat the same food every day is beyond me.(the "hot" food is also lukewarm at best )

Whilst away my husband developed a chest infection and was wisked away in an ambulance, leaving me and the children on our own. He was put in isolation and told he may have TB - how ridiculous - as a nurse I am certain he had an infection, a mild one at that, just in need of antibiotics. Once again, this felt like a scam - especially when my husband was asked for a £1,000 deposit 'just in case' he wasn't covered. My husband tried to leave, and was met by an angry doctor for doing so - the doctor obviously didn't like the idea of £1,000 cash walking out the door!

If not for some great people that we meet out there i do not know how we would have got through it. My overall feeling is that they have your money and do not care that we have worked hard all year to give it to them.

The hotel owners children stay in resort and run riot round the hotel with two nannys following them doing nothing. The hotel staff on the whole were very nice, just a very badly managed place in need of some repair - watch out for falling in drain grids round the pool as lots of people fell down them.
Just to top off this hoilday we missed our flight back to the uk and we booked a new flight two days later and were told it would cost 150 pounds to stay a further two nights and on checking out they doubled it when we argued this they threatened us with the police (nice).
In conclusion if you are looking for a cheap getaway do not go here as it ended up costing us a small fortune eating out and going on trips just to get away from the small pool which if you are not down soon enough then there will be nowhere to sit anyway . Also keep an eye on your teenage daughters as we saw some things going on there that would be most parents worst nightmare.

“never would go back to this hotel”

Grand Newport

I went to Grand Newport for a week me and my boyfriend i came back yesterday 4th Aug.

The hotel

The hotel its self inside was lovely the decoration. Lovely bar area which had a great very of Gumbet and the sea. Which was beautiful. The pool was really really big and one of the best pool I have ever seen.

The bad point was that we were 108 which was right at the the bottom on the stairs which really hurt your legs walking up and down every day in the heat. There was over 100 stairs to walk up or down to get to the room. When we got to the room it was ok small with no view or terrace. So none of our towels or stuff was drying.

The air contiioning stop working which in when the heat is a 30 is hot and sweaty. We complained about this and they sort it out but it barley blow cold air and made alot of noise. The shower was also freezing cold water.

Food

The food was the worst looking food i have ever seen. Me and my partner eat anything but this was so basic and look horrible you didnt even want to try it. There were flys all over the food. We were so hungry we had to eat so i was scoop stuff from the bottom. Days were just eatting rice and meat. The dessert was lovely fruits, water melon and cakes.

Most people took one look at the food and walked out.

At 2pm ish there were burger and chips which were lovely so we normal skiped lunch for these. Cake was left by BBQ out which the birds would eat parts of though.

In the end i know alot of people were eating out as alot of the leaflets gave discount, free wine and free taxi service. We went to china town and chinese locus which was really really nice the best food ever. Chinese Locus gave us free prawn cracker, free water melon and a free drink. it was really yummy.

Do expect any food after dinner where most hotels i have been too had food all time whenever you want somthing.

Drinks

I was also let down by the drinks as last year we stayed in Turkey 5* we had cocktails with alchole and loads of drinks to choose from. We here i ask for cocktail but to put vodka in it cost extra. I was living on vodka and coke which wasnt great.

Entertainment

The first night we got there i thought it was good seem to be people on stage dresing up and having a laugh. So me and my boyfriend would have dinner sit upstairs on the terrace and wait but nothing. One night a man on keyboard singing or just music. Then one night turkish night what a let down last year there was camels outside the hotel, stools selling turkish stuff, belly dancers and turksih folk dancers. At this hotel very little and lasted only 30 mins. lucky me and my boyfriend made friends with another couple who were lovely to chat too every day .

We ended up Gumbet and the night life was buzzing so many bars, shops, nightclubs to go in. Very cheap. The turkish people want you to have fun and really make your hoilday. They are really good dancers and getting up dancing. We sow a boy of about 7 years old break dancing he was excellent.

Gumbet the place is worth going to for anyone familes, couples, young, old, single, married anyone there is so much to do beach, pool,
shopping, markets, trips to Kos, Boat trips, and what we done swim with Dolphin which was the best experience ever it was woth the money. We alo feed the dolphins. The night life is amazing and bussing until the ealy hours of the day. I would go self catering as i spend over £400 on a hotel i was never there. There are so many places to eat.
