“Just arrived back from the Grand Newport, I'll tell you the real truth”

Grand Newport

Before I went off on my holiday to the Grand Newport hotel, I read all the reviews on here and was expecting the worse, Really terrible food, rude staff, dirty rooms, to be honest with you i was dreading it.

Well, I've just arrived back and heres the real truth.

When we arrived at the hotel I was blown away with how impressive it looked ( and believe me i've stayed in some nice hotels in my time ) and the views were out of this world, this alone made me feel at ease.

Lets start with the food, i was expecting pure slop and things that i couldn't even bear to pass my lips, however i was pleasently surprised, yes there is a lot of salad and rice, but your in turkey for goodness sake, if you want english food, stay at home.
I never went hungrey and i even ate more than i would at home.
If you want sausage and mash, chips, chips and even more chips, like i said stay at home and go to your local chippie.

There is a lot of steps leading to the bedrooms ( unless your lucky enough to be in one of the suites), my boyfriends and my room was located right at the bottom of them all, but to be honest the amount of food i ate while i was out there, i was glad of the excerise up and down them. However if your elderly i can see this being a big problem.

The rooms were very clean, we did ask to change rooms when we first arrived only because we didn't have a very good view of the sea, we were told to ask the following day as a lot of people were checking out but when we went up the next day they said they were full up, but to be honest we only went back to the room to sleep, never spent much time in it, so we weren't to bothered.

The entertainment is naff, jim the entertainment guy ( who does love himself and the ladies), uses the guest a lot to play silly games, its all a bit 18-30s, the best night was the turkish night when they had belly dancers. Gumbet is only 5 mins away by bus, so head down there, me and my boyfriend had some really good nights there.

The pool is ok just a little small, and the sunbeds are crammed together, just make sure your up early to put your towel out, thats all i'll say.

Overall i had a really good holiday at the Grand Newport, we wanted cheap and cheerful and thats exactly what we got.

Would i return to this hotel???? yes i would, and theres very few places that i would say that about.

PLEASE DON'T LISTEN TO THE OTHER REVIEWS ON HERE, THEY'LL JUST PUT YOU OFF. Go there and judge for yourselves.

“Fantastic Holiday :)”

Grand Newport

My Boyfriend and I booked this holiday through teletext for a very reasonably price. Although we usually research our hotel months in advance this was a last minute booking and my brother had already booked to go their so we booked regardless.

The reviews are read lastminute where okay, was a little worried about some off the reviews because most complaints where about the FOOD ? WHY?

The food was fantasic, yes it can get a little repeatative but thats what you get when you go all inclusive. Their was always a different selection of hot meals so could easily create a new meal each time we ate.
Breakfast was rather unusual but as we expected YOUR IN TURKEY SO YOUR NOT GOING TO GET A FULL ENGLISH EVERYDAY unlessyou eat out?
(My advice is if you want English food then go to Blackpool for your holiday or dont go all inclusive and pay to eat out!)

The pool area was fantastic (so clean, one night I actually witnessed them hover the pool out . . . Ive never seen that England and was very impressed!)
Although if you require a sunlounger I would suggest you get up early and put out your towels (in the high season.) This never caused us a problem as their was plenty of room around the pool areas to place our towel, tables and chairs under the shade or even cushions and beanbags which to can move to where ever you require.

Staff where amazing, so friendly and made our holiday more enjoyable. Hakan (Jim) is the hotel animator he works very long hours but still managered to provide entertainment throughout the whole of our stay Mrs & Mrs Grand Newport was a blast. (If your like me and usually dont get involved just do it this once, have a few drinks because I gaurentee you you'll laugh for the rest of your holiday and regret it if you dont participate . . . Staff are so friendly and if something is not up to your standard then express your opinion dont shout everyone can speak excellent English and will cooperate with you as much as you with them.)

The views well what can I say . . . See for your self, it really is breathtaking morning noon and night. You will be amazed.

The hotel it self is beautiful, interior amazing, so luxurios which you will notice as soon as you walk into reception on arrival.
Although rooms are quite basic the views do really make up for that as most rooms are sea view with no extra supplement (although can not gaurentee this) some have balcony or terrace.
We hardly spend any time at all in our room but air conditioning was fantastic at night times and was cleaned everyday with fresh towels.
(we arrived at 5:30 Tuesday morning slept for a couple of hours then showered and went for a late breakfast 11am-12pm and when we returned to our room was amazed as our beds had been made and clean towels provided even though we had only been in the hotel for 6hours)
Maids are lovely although dont speak much English, the whole time we where their I felt completey safe as I was forever leaving my expensive jewellery & cash lying around & to my amazment was always their when I got back.

Overall the place if fantastic, their where no children their but that may change throughout the summer holidays, we met some really nice people and hopefully will stay in touch with them all (this is a mixed culture hotel and everyone got on so well.)
Gumbet is a fantastic place, be prepared to haggle the cost when out shopping for bargains because you will always get it cheaper then asking price.

Trips and excursions >(TAKE YOUR CAMERA) Highly recommend the boat trip £10 -£13 and you should recieve a free turkish bath look around when out in Gumbet compare prices and dont book through your hotel rep you'll get it much cheaper and if your worried about insurance (for water sport) with most agents its included anyway.

BEACHES > Their is a small beach about 15minutes walk from the hotel, all down hill but best to get a bus on the way back nice vies but we preferred Gumbet beach as it has a vaste variety of water sports which we love :) reasonable prices also.
All beaches we went to had free sunbed and parasols, much needs as temperatures where as high as 50C 132F "VERY HOT"

The only downfall about this hotel is the stairs up to the pool area, not suitable for people with walking difficulties although I think they have ground level room (Check this out before you go) and the beach is not really within walking distance. Their is a FREE bus service everyday to Bitez beach their and back and buses run every 8 minutes in to town or other beaches for 2 TLY.
This is a set cost whether you are only jumping on to pop to the shops (walk through reception and out to the front of your hotel, turn left, walk for about 5meters aprox and on the left hand side their is a small shop for people who require cigerattes, ice lollies or toiletries) or going the whole way into Bodrum (where their are some fantatic markets)

DONT LISTEN TO ANY OF THE BAD REVIEWS FOR THE PRICE WE PAID WE WHERE ABSOLUTELY AMAZED, WE FEEL THIS HOTEL DESERVED A 4 * TITLE AND WOULD DEFINATELY RETURN AGAIN IN THE FUTURE, 1 WEEK REALLY IS NOT LONG ENOUGH TO EXPERIENCE TURKEYS TRUE BEAUTY.

DONT BE PUT OFF BY HORRID REVIEWS SEE FOR YOURSELF, YOUR HOLIDAY IS WHAT YOU MAKE IT.

I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAY AS MUCH AS WE DID.

Room was dirty on arrival, bathroom full of sand splashed all up the walls and all over the floor, shower didn't work, maid forgot clean towels one day and bed sheets another so we were left with no sheets on the bed. The food was ok different to english food, quite tasty but a bit repetitive after a week and not that much selection. staff friendly enough and pool area and bar very clean pitty about the rooms. It's a cheap getterway don't forget the work cheap. Location is very good so if you get bored you can go for a walk or a bus ride.

Booked the Grand Newport after reading all the reviews and for the price we were spending decided it was the best of a bad bunch. We paid £330 for a week, the best price i found people had paid was £280(week) or £720 per couple for 2 weeks ( I would not want to be here for 2 weeks), Most others I got talking to paid about the same as myself.

Flew with Onur, was worried after reading reviews, but flights were ok and for us, pretty much on time.(other flights with Onur were delayed but we were lucky, all airlines have delays)
Transfers were very hit and miss, we booked with goldtrail but the rep sent us to another company, at least we were on someones list, another couple were not but they stuck with us as they had the same sheet of paper and we all got to the hotel. Going home they were not on the list again and they spent a fortune on calls and finally arranged a pick up but it was arranged for one hour after ours, even though they were on the same flight! very worrying. If it really hits the fan there is a taxi rank right outside the hotel but it will cost £35 one way in a cab.

Hotel is exactly as other reviews have said, great views, good looking hotel, steps can be a problem. For us the steps were ok, but we were not on the bottom. We got room 305, no view, no balcony. Asked for a move and was told hotel is full but people check out tomorrow. Come back at midday and room change is yours. Fair enough thinks I, but gave up after being told the same for 4 days straight. Others were moved (old ladies right at the bottom) and people who shouted and demanded, so i think it is cause hell or make do.

Do not take children to this hotel, they will starve and be bored stupid. I am not a fussy eater but the food, although you could eat something was really poor. If you love salad fill your boots but anything else is awful. If you see something good for lunch (good means you can eat it) fill up as you may only find rice that you can eat at the evening meal. Again we expected this and reflecting on the price decided we would eat out if really bad, we did a few times. If you are fussy don't go or expect to eat out all the time, you have been warned.

Entertainment is the so called Jim Carey, ok kind of a guy, but don't expect much. Music round the pool is 85% Turkish. Yes we are in their country but when you are relaxing round the pool you do not want to hear what sounds like someone having their teeth pulled out with no anaesthetic while your 4 year old is playing the violin! at 100db to boot!!! You get a water polo game in the afternoon. There is a table tennis table and a dart board with 2 darts. Evening is either watching him and anybody willing playing football(out of the hotel) a cheesy show with you the stars, bingo where they push various vouchers to help you get rid of your cash or some nights nothing. It is all about him. He does sort of listen but I tried and although got somewhere with the music for an hour, it reverts back to the same and it is not worth the effort.

Do as we did, make some friends and talk the night away or go into Gumbet, a great place with lots to do, great atmosphere but you will hemorrage cash. Another word of advice on Jim, lock up your daughters.

This really is a warts'n'all review, if you can get to the pool for 8.30 or 9am and don't mind being within 6 inches of the couple next to you, you will get a sun bed. The sun shines and the views are great. The pool is great (although not huge) and we met some great people and had a good time, but with a little change it could be so so much better. There is a huge seating area by the pool which could have beds instead of tables, they could give you the plastic glasses not just for beer but for all drinks instead of wafer thin gone in a mouthful or blown away in the breeze cups. I think to sum it up you really feel they are doing everything they can to make you go out of the hotel to spend money and not get anything free or should i say all inclusive.

“Do not recommend!”

Although the hotel looked good it was a different case when we got there. It started when we arrived with a receptionist that couldnt speak English, we specifically asked for sea view hotel which was written on our booking sheet, they gave us a tiny dark room that had only 2 bedside lights more like a dungeon and said come back 2mrw at 12noon - not guaranteed though. We had to go down 50/60 stairs from the pool, staff were very rude and did not want to help in any way. Rooms were not cleaned everyday, they just made the beds! towels were given every 2days. Breakfast was the only decent meal of the day as the other meals were mainly salads - NO MEAT. We had an all inclusive deal which was ment to last untill 11pm, but the bar would close early some nights at 9.45pm and staff would charge 'extra' unless you argued with them and made a scene.
if you would like a hotel with rude staff, ALOT of stairs, no lighting, rabbit food, having to get a bus to ANY location, dirty rooms, receptionist that doesnt speak english - this hotel is made for you. Do Not Recommend it.
