I have just returned from the Magnific after staying for one week with 7 adults and 2 children. I have never written a review before but felt this needs to be said as many of the reviews on here are clearly written by hotel staff!
Check in: Arrive at 4am to a reception full of people with one guy behind the desk who barely speaks English. This guy managed to get us checked in after about 30 minutes but then refused to give us the keys until the 'bell boy' arrived. After another 30 minutes (now 5am) the 'bell boy' arrives with no trolley for luggage, cannot speak a word of English and takes all of our room keys from the reception guy, not having a clue who is staying in which room! Finally we all get to our rooms, time now is nearly 6am!
Rooms: standard room that is supposed to accomodate 3 adults barely has room to swing a cat. The room looked over the pool and had a small balcony but the room itself was so dark you could barely see - just one main light outside the bathroom and two ikea style lamps are not sufficent. The double bed is big but only has one single sheet turned width ways to cover two adults, after three days of complaining I finally managed to get another blanket! Air con always worked which was a plus. Sheets and towels were changed every day and room cleaned to a poor standard - dust and dirt under all beds. Mini fridge had two cans of drink on arrival and one warm bottle of water and was not re-filled at any point during the week. Bathroom small and dingy with a shower that dribbled as soon as you turn the hot water on! The music from the bars can be heard until about 4/5am but luckily I am a heavy sleeper, if you wasnt, this would be a nightmare, not a holiday.
Food & drink: Breakfast was ok, choice of fruit, cereal and cooked breakfast (not English breakfast style) ommelette and egg station where thye are cooked in front of you. Lunch was buffet in the main dining hall and comprised of salads, pasta, cooked meat hot and cold. Lunch by the pool area was salad bar, burgers, chips and pizza, was edible but not to a high standard. Always ate out for dinner so cannot comment. Drink selection was so poor it was shocking, coke, lemonade, fanta, water, beer, wine, vodka and gin! For an all-inclusive resort this was appauling. Most of our spending money was spent buying drinks of our choice in the bar next door which just happens to be owned by the hotel - how convenient! Drinks were also served in glasses to five year old children, when we complained about this and asked for plastic cups, the manager of the bar told us no. This left no option to order a beer which was served in a plastic cup, empty it out and pour the soft drink in the plastic cup. After complaining to the hotel manager, they finally started to use plastic cups!
Pool area: Pool is lovely, very warm and clean but also very deep the whole way around so make sure young children are supervised at all times. Wasnt a problem getting sunbeds by 9am but after this time was pretty busy. The decking was coming loose in places and there were loose tiles by the childrens pool which were sharp and dangerous. Beach is tiny and always packed by 8am so if you like the beach, get up early.
Check out: Only one courtesy room for all passengers checking out that day, luggage room so small that you had to leave your cases in the main reception area!
Overall, this hotel is definately not a 4* the rooms, the staff, the food and drink selection is better at Butlins!
