“Colossus Hotel, Gumbet, Turkey”

My wife and i stayed at this hotel the last two weeks in September and while i have stayed in some very basis accomodation this hotel was absolutely appalling! People will say you get what you pay for but with this hotel you get much less than that. The food was very sub standard, the rooms were tiny and i do mean tiny, grubby and desperately in need of refurbishment. The final few days consisted of constant drilling and banging by builders, twisting their way between the sun loungers with wheelbarrows full of bricks and rubble! On the last day, and when i say the last day i mean the hotel was closing down the day we were due to leave so there was no food available at all and the drinks machines were all switched off leaving any remaining guests to fend for themselves. The only bright spot was the good rapport we had with Ozzie who did everything he possibly could to keep us entertained and looked after. So if you aren't bothered about staying at a tiny shabby hotel then come here, all the bars and restaurants are within a short walking distance so your not kept awake at night but apart from that the hotel was shockingly bad!!

Saw the reviews after booking. so was a bit nervous! The room we were given on arrival (about 1.30 in the morning) was on the top floor, small, dark and claustrophobic but clean. Spoke to Ozzie after breakfast and was moved to a much better room immediately. The food was fine and plentiful but generally a bit repetitive, the housekeeping team managed by the very helpful Ozzie was very good, they were all very hardworking and pleasant. the pool is quite small and the music played all day was too loud and very much the DJs clubbing favourites, many of the guests were older and there were young families too - the music was definately not appropriate. I wouldn't stay again as I think there are better hotels for the same price. I also wasn't overly impressed with Gumbet, I have been to Turkey 6 times now and this was the least pleasant resort to date. But again I'd like to say that it was a mixed bag with the hotel staff redeeming the hotel and we found the nearby resort of Bitaz far more pleasent for beach days. We also found the nearby Seray Class apartments/bar very pleasant and when we wanted to have a quiet time by the pool they were happy to let us spend our afternoons there.

Room Tip: Accept only rooms on the ground floor

We went to this hotel twice & it has been brilliant! The people who work at the hotel are very good and friendly. Always had the crack with ozzie! going back next year. It is close to the bars, resturants and shops. Reception speaks good english also.

When we first arrived at the hotel we were taken up hundreds of steps to our room... It was small and filthy the shower was a health hazard and was also filthy! We waited for our rep that came the next day to explain we wanted to be moved hotels and he said it was not his problem his only concern was selling his over priced trips! We decided we'd had to make the best of it after making several phone calls to be moved. The pool was very basic and you had to be down at the pool by 9am to get a sun lounger.

The food I wouldn't even let my dog eat! We spent more money eating out every day. All inclusive drinks were basic fizzy drinks and vodka that gives you blisters on your tongue! The staff were jobs worths and rude.. Even a Turkish family were moved from the hotel because the quality of everything was poor!

The area was pretty awful too.. Couldn't walk down the street without being hassled. This is by far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in STAY AWAY and save your money!

I will not be returning to turkey after this horrid experience.

We stayed at this hotel from the 05/08/13 to 12/08/13
Read the reviews after booking the hotel and thought i made a massive mistake
This hotel does not deserve the reviews given by some people, below is my honest opinion on this hotel
Room very basic and small lovely king size bed clean to average standard could to with some new units.
Hotel very good house keeping by OZZY and his team
Food breakfast mainly for the locals, we eaten out for breakfast most mornings but if you like turkish breakfast plenty and fresh rest of meals good standard and choice.
Pool area lovely good bar service always
Staff BRILLIANT do anything for you if you ASK and many thanks to Slim Jim,Apple and Ozzy for making our stay extra special

My wife and I,have stayed at many hotels. The room is of a poor standard. The hotel staff are very helpful. The food was good and we enjoyed all meals consumed. The pool was clean and the hotel staff. excelled to make our stay a pleasant one. On our first day we felt so let down by the hard sell of the holiday company rep, representing you travel.HE SOLD US TRIPS AT VERY INFLATED PRICES.SO BE WARNED OF HARD SELL EXCURSIONS WHEN YOU HAVE HAD ONLY A COUPLE OF HOURS SLEEP.Not a hotel for the elderly or disabled. For what we payed for this weeks holiday,on a last minute deal with all inclusive,we have had better deals but this was made bearable due to the kind staff.

Where to start? I arrived at the hotel to be told i have an "annex room" which was not part of the hotel itself. OMG VILE! The room had mould on the wall, small bathroom where u could go to the loo and wash your hair at the same time. It was pure flith. When i asked the hotel manager to move us he wanted to charge us and said we paid for a basic room. IM SORRY BUT THIS WAS NOT TOLD TO ME BY THE AGENT!. I had a screaming match with the agent and they said this room was acceptable. I paid alot more and got a crap hotel. The restaurant was up 3 flights of stairs where people were struggling to get up there and the food was so bad i ate out everyday ( i was fully inclusive) I wasted more money eating out. The pool was shabby and the service poor and if you stay here your seriously in trouble!!! Lastly the staff are not helpful, rude and lazy. Id rather stay in a bin than stay here again!
