Hell has no fury like Sunway ! From the minute I arrived I could tell that all the staff were interested in was your wallet - from £3 a day for the 1970's 'airconditioning' that pumped out warm air to the £15 for safe deposit.
The atmosphere there was so false and contrived. From the message on bill boards like, 'our present to you spend all you money here and get a free boat trip' to the bar pumping out. Bob Marlley, UB40, Starship etc. It would make you want to puke. The barman wore the same Bob Marley top but could not name one album. Do the staff really think we like to robbed and listen to 'everyone's favorite music' ? Just how disgustingly taccy was this place I've entered in to ? The Swimming pool had horrendous dance music blarring out the same old cd and Mobile phone lidoes for heaven sake !
I would say it was like Blackpool in the sun but it would do Blackpool a dis service - and that is saying something.
I was half board - but the food was pure slop. I made the mistake of sitting in the outdoor restaurant area on day one. It
looked quiet relaxing with pleasant surroundings. However once the staff found out that I was was half board they quickly shipped me into the dire place reserved for these degenerated where you could help your self to the buffet. And what vile stuff it was.
I got the impression that the staff were really laughing at
us ignorant English with our lack our lack of Culture and futile interests.
Now you may think I being a liite harsh. May be so. But then I hated Gumbet. If you like Gut -buster 'English' breakfasts, henna tatooes, re-runs only fools and horses in bars, football tops, fake clothes shops and an array of vile restarants catering for the discerning Brit then this is for you. This place is worse that Playa de las America in Tenerife.

This place stinks. Literally I mean. Those with a delicate nose need not apply. The sewarage type smell originates from the glass lift shaft adjacent to the dining room. Its not just down to bad drains its down to the fact that during rain showers water fills the bottom of the shaft and lies there stagnating in the incredible Turkish heat. This was our first time in Turkey and yes we read the reviews of this hotel but the Vision rep swore it was a decent place and gullible as we were took her at her word. The good points. The room we had was clean. The swiming pool was massive and you could drink there around the clock. The bad points, breakfast was dire, the pool area was minging. It was never hosed down and you always came away with black feet. The sunloungers originally white were a dirty grey but this dirt could be wiped away with a bag full of wet wipes. The hotel management was poor and allowed its staff to do as they pleased. As there was no uniform you could never tell whom the staff were or if they were on duty or off. English was not a strong point for the staff except for the lovely receptionist. The best overall thing about this hotel was its clientelle. We met a great bunch of people and got on very well. There is a happy ending though. Four days into our stay the Vision rep informed us by letter that The Sunway was about to lose its power supply and that it would be upgrading us to the Simba. The Sunway informed us that there would be power and that Vision had not payed them. It also said we could stay on for free if we wanted to. The people who only had a couple of days left decided to stay we along with a few couples moved on to The Simba. It was only by staying at the Simba we realised the Sunway was a kip. The Simba was by far a superior hotel, impressing us so much we will return there next year. Gumbet is an ok place but definately unsuitable for families with small children and the infirmed. September is the best time to go for the over 40s. When you are all Turked out after a few days try the Calypso bar for a taste of back home. Proper English breakfasts but more importantly the best cup of tea in Gumbet alie to its fine qualities.

after reading all these reviews we were a bit edgy about the hotel we had booked but we found that the hotel was ok, the receptionist was lovely and extremly helpful, the waiters and technical staff were frienly and efficient and the cleaner was always happy to whip round and get the job done, our only problem was the stinky drains but come on thats not the hotels fault , the whole of gumbet stinks like rotten feet, its just one of these towns that hasnt caught up with cleanliness yet, the sunway was pretty central and had all the facilitys anyone could possibly need, i dont advise this hotel for anyone wishing a quiet holiday by the pool with early nights, music can go on pretty late and the pool is often packed with young drinkers but that was no problem to me and my fiance, could be to others though if you go expecting a quiet holiday. not for the elderly scene more of a stag/hen hotel.

The Sunway Hotel was really quite abysmal. The rooms were small, and the bathroom drains really smelly and obnoxious. It cost to get air-con for your room which is a complete con but you needed it as it was so hot. Staff ok, however vision rep 'Jack' was awful. Apparently we booked our airport seats with him and it was assured we would get extra leg-room. This did not happen and the airport staff were bemused by the receipt we had and had no record of such a booking. No hot water for the shower and distressingly was salt water. What made this more annoying was that the vision rep Mustafa admitted on the welcome chat that they were too mean to pay for hot water. Irritating when you consider you have forked out the cash for a holiday at a 4 star hotel and you cannot even get hot water!!!
The lifts were really unsafe and I got stuck in the glass one by the restaurant (the other one didn't work but had no sign to indicate this). The alarm ion the lift only worked when I continually held it down and no-one responded! I banged on the window and fortunately some passing guests saw me and got the staff to help. I was not best pleased! Food was garbage - so glad I didn't go all-inclusive, I think my spirits would have been broken utterly. Gumbet is quite poor compared to Bodrum which is wonderful, although Gumbet did have some nice restaurants, particularly Nacho Nanas. They didn't hassle you to get you to go in, and the food was brilliant - really tasty and very generous portions. Ephesus well worth a visit, so amazing! Don't go with hotel, book off the sellers in Gumbet or Bodrum as is much cheaper and just as good.
Overall I thought Sunway was dreadful - would absolutely not go back and will never go away with vision holidays again.
