“The epitome of tranquility”

Atami Hotel

I stayed at the Atami hotel for 7 nights in early June 2007 and had the most relaxing holiday I've ever had.

I usually go for a more adventurous, cultural trip, but having been unwell recently a bit of indulgent laziness was just what I needed.

The setting of the hotel is utterly amazing...real untouched nature in an area renowned for frantic construction and loud resorts. The bay was beautiful - lovely warm(ish!) crystal clear water with views over the hills and towards other bays. The decking area was perfect to relax on and I didn't miss the lethal combination of sand and suncream!

The gardens around the hotel were beautiful and well-maintained - and you can sit and watch birdlife from your own balcony. Didn't swim in the pool as the sea was so lovely - but it looks perfectly nice.

Stayed in a deluxe room which was way above my budget but well worth it - beautiful, authentic furniture, light and airy.

The service was great - lovely people who really appreciated a bit of respect. The family who run the place were always around and made the place seem more like a home than a hotel.

I'd love to go again.

“Loved the Atami!”

Atami Hotel

We stayed at Atami Hotel last summer and I can frankly say that this is the place I would love to visit again!!! The hotel was overlooking the Paradise Bay and the scenery was breathtaking. We spent our day usually on the jetty while watching the small hills surrounding the bay. The breakfast and dinner were served at the terrace which had a panaromic view of the bay.
We stayed in deluxe rooms and they were very comfortable. The room was decorated in such a way that we felt that we were at our own home rather than at a hotel. The staff and the owners were very friendly and they tried to make us feel at home too!
The sea was crystal clear and warm, we never used the swimmimg pool although it was clean and good-sized.
I read the previous reviews yet, I couldn't understand why some didn't like the hotel. It must be because they were looking for something else rather than a quiet, peaceful holiday without a corporate touch. I would recommend Atami Hotel to anyone who is looking for a relaxing and stress-free holiday!

The Atami Hotel is situated in total isolation on one of the most beautiful bays in Turkey. (Believe me, I've been married to a Turkish wife for almost 25 years and have been traveling to Turkey almost every summer.) Multi-million dollar yachts are hard-pressed to find a better place to anchor, yet they are careful not to disturb the peace and quiet. I wish that I could say something nice about the recently constructed 32-room Atami Hotel, but I frankly cannot. It's a pretentious architectural disaster with its huge, poorly air-conditioned, largely empty reception and public areas. Its bedrooms are cramped, the bathrooms smell faintly of sewage from the shower drain. The stairwells have large iron-wrought senseless grates, the steps inside and out are uneven, the hallways tilted, some water pipes even protrude from underfoot. To be sure, there is a billiard table in one room, books on bookshelves under lock and key, and a good-sized television set with DVD player. However, the 3 available English DVDs are scratched and almost unplayable. In the basement there's an exercise room with a sorry collection of exercise machines and--incongrously enough--a squash court, none of which look like they have ever been used.
Outside there's a very large and attractive pool. It's nowhere less than five feet deep and, though the hotel advertises that it does not accommodate them, two young children were staying there while we were. It's only a matter of time before the lawsuits begin!
The Atami is promoted as a family-run hotel. In our two days there, we never once saw the Turkish father or the Japanese mother, just their dour and very cryptic twin daughters. We had no car and though it had been represented that there was a free shuttle into Bodrum, it turned out there was but one roundtrip per day, leaving at 8pm and coming back at 11, not to Bodrum but a nearby town from which one could get a taxi costing about $30 each way! As for the promised Japanese menu, it could only be specially ordered a day in advance. The Turkish food was only fair, served by waiters as well-meaning as they were young and painfully inexperienced. The advertised yoga classes were by appointment, and only if the instructor happened to be available--which she wasn't.
So why stay at the Atami? I can't begin to imagine! We wouldn't have stayed even one night once we saw it, but then we had a one-week reservation and could only get five days worth of our money back. As an alternative, I would heartily recommend the Hotel El Vino in Bodrum. Enjoy its warm hospitality, swim in beautiful pool, eat its excellent Turkish cuisine overlooking the Bodrum Castle and bay, enjoy the nearby Bodrum nightlife, and be sure to rent a boat to take you to Atami's wonderful bay. Believe me, it will cost you no more and you'll be infinitely happier than staying at the Atami Hotel.

If you are looking for absolute peace and quiet in a really beautiful place, this is for you. I was in need of a really good rest and went without my husband, on my own, with a pile of books. I couldn't have been better looked after.

The room was smallish and simple but perfectly comfortable. Breakfast and dinner on the terrace overlooking the sea were a delight, with excellent service. The owners were very friendly and went out of their way to make me feel at home, given that I was on my own.

There was always good fresh fish available for dinner and delicious vegetable based mezes. A range of home baked bread and cakes appeared at breakfast and other times, including tea time by the sea, when tea appeared daily.

The garden and the long jetty by the clean, clear sea are restful and beautiful places to lounge around and the swimming in the well protected and calm bay is very pleasant.

I would go back at the drop of a hat.

My husband and I stayed for 4 nights in early June and had nothing but a perfect time. I couldn't believe what paradies we had there. The staff was totally professional and were only concerned about making sure we were happy. True, the place is run by a family - but we really liked that because it was not a corporate feel.

WARNING: do not stay here if you are interested in going back and forth to Bodrum. The road to Atami is very long, windy and small. Once you reach it, it is not convenient to leave, so make sure you are comfortable with staying put in a little paradies for your stay.
