My boyfriend and I have just got back from staying at this hotel for 2 weeks in Gumbet and we had a great holiday there.
I was a little worried because of all the bad reviews on this hotel but these people are just being really picky. For what we paid for it, it was good. You want a better place, then pay more. We got there around 6 am so I was not in a good mood anyway from flight being delayed and such, the reception staff there were not very welcoming and could hardly speak english. (In comparison to the rest of the hotel staff).
Our club room was fine, a little small but we didnt care, we wouldnt be spending that much time in it. Our air con worked fine which was good and everywhere was clean and tidy. Housekeeping came everyday and gave us clean towels and blankets, the sheets were changed a couple of times a week. The shower always leaked because the seal was rubbish and out mat was always ringing wet after, but as the maid changed it everyday it wasnt much of a problem.
The food was okay and there was a big selection, always all kinds of salad, different meat each day and vegetarian dishes. I never got up for breakfast but my boyfriend said that it wasnt brilliant. After a while it gets repetative so we did spend money out in restaurants a few times, a little more than you should have to on an all inclusive holiday but it was okay. The drinks were okay, they had (watered down) vodka, gin, raki, wine, beer, pepsi, sprite and fanta. You have to pay after 11pm even though you've been standing in the queue at 20 minutes to 11. One night my boyfriend approached the manager about it and he just pretended he didnt understand and walked off, this was really rude.
Entertainment was okay, sometimes a little boring and if you've stayed there a week then youll be watching the same thing the next week. There is a lot of german, dutch and russians there so he did say a lot of things in other languages and it got frustrating at times. And there was definitly favourtism going on at times. They had a bingo night, turkish night, mrs bodrum art, mr bodrum art and a couples night. One night they had a moonlight cruise around bodrum which came to 34 lira for both of us. This was a complete waste of money and they made it sound so good when they were selling it. We went to a small boat, had to take off our shoes, sit on these damp small cushions and in complete darkness for 3 hours while the entertainment guy fell asleep. on the friday they had a beach party but we never went because of how bad the cruise was.
There is 3 pools, one by the bottom bar that does play the same music all day, a quieter one which we always went to, and one at the top near the main hotel but we never went to it. The pools had ants nests around them near some of the walls which wasnt very nice.
The photographer is rubbish, he took us to the beach and some were nice but he has no idea about colour casting or exposure. I only brought some of ours because I know how to correct them on computer software. The photographer, the hairdresser, the entertainment and the turkish bath guys come around everyday bothering you which was a little annoying.
Gumbet is really nice and this hotel being on a hill is not a problem as there is a bus every 5 minutes. Also a free shuttle to the bitez beach at certain times. We had a great holiday here and you will too if you are not too picky about small things.
Hi to Jane and Peter if your reading this! ;)
We have just got back from Turkey where we stayed at the Art Bodrum Hotel. We were at bit worried at first as most of the reviews we had read were terrible and we hadn't paid much for the holiday. But I'm gald we booked it as we had a fab time.
The hotel is situated on a hill but the whole area is hilly so there are very few hotels which aren't on hills. We walked into Gumbet a few times to check out the local shops and the beach, this took about 15 minutes. However there is a bus every couple of minutes and this costs roughly £1, if you don't fancy walking back up the hill. The hotel also provides a free bus service to and from the beach everyday with set times.
We stayed in a club room it was a bit small but was vey clean and tidy, the maid came everyday to clean the room and gave us fresh towels. We only stayed a week and the bedding was changed every other day. We had a patio area which was a good size and had a table and 2 chairs to sit on, the view from here was lovely.
There are 3 nice swimming pools and 3 childrens pools. These were kept clean and there was enough sunbeds for everyone. All have great views of Gumbet.
The food was lovely with lots of variety and everything was labelled so you knew what it was. There was something different everyday to choose from. The restaurant was big and very clean the staff were really friendly. The snack bar had a variety of snacks everyday from 3:30 till 5:00.
You could have as much as you wanted to drink from 10:00am to 11:00pm, this was all local drinks and there was beer, wines, vodka, gin and alll soft drinks and was all really nice.
The entertainment wasn't very good this could be improved but other than this we had a fab holiday and are thinking of going back next year.
We have just got back from Turkey where we stayed at at the Art Hotel Bodrum. We were allocated a 'club' room which was very small and looked quite shabby. The entrance door had a large hole in it and no attempt had been made to repair this. We had no maid service for 3 days. The staff did not speak very much English and appeared to understand even less, which made any communictaion with them difficult. The hotel was popular with Russian and Germans with very few British staying there.
We spent 1 week there which felt like a lifetime. The food was pretty awful and the wine is the worst you will ever taste. We paid for an all inclusive deal but we ate out most of the time and bought wine from the local supermarket in Gumbet to drink at the hotel.
The entertainment was loud with same music cd's played again and again. There is absolutely nothing for children to do and we saw parents struggling to keep tearful bored youngsters occupied. We would strongly advise you not to go there.
I have just come back after one week with my family, the journey there was a joke three hours from Bodrum coach driven by an incopetant driver who couldn't drive let alone know where he was going. we were not given any information on how long the jounrney was to last and not the taxi we were promised.
Hotel looked nice on arrival, but when we got to our room, t was tiny, no where to sit outside, no chairs even thoiugh we asked 4 times the receptioist kept saying"I'll send my friend", well no friend came. We ende up pinching 4 chairs from the terrace next door.
Food was very boring, no decent stuff for breakfast, ate there 1st night then went out to eat which was really nice. The entertainment was far too loud during the day with one CD being played all day.
Not suitable for children who dont speak German, turkish or Russian
