“Change of bar staff perhaps?”

Makumba Summer Garden

Sep 27, 2007

I returned from 14 days at the Makumba Summer Garden on 25th and I am afraid that my experience of the bar staff was totally different from Sydenydoodle's.
The premises themselves are very nice, convenient for the beach and on the Bodrum dolmus route.
The reception, maintenence and cleaning staff were all very nice and helpful.
The bar staff when I was there were the most appaling people I have ever met. They made a game of ignoring some residents, although if there was a large group of residents the bar staff were literally all over them.
They seemed intent in making individuals and couples feel uncomfortable.
I was pointedly ignored in the bar three times, once food I had ordered with my wife was left to cool on the cooking area counter while two barmen gossiped and presumably ignored me.
After the Turkish Night I found it impossible to get my bill from the staff and as a result I walked out of the bar area.
They soon noticed this and caught up with me waving a bill(the wrong one as it turned out)demanding payment.
I then involved reception staff and compained about the conduct of the bar staff.
This resulted in a written apology from the manager and a gift of fruit and wine.
It did nothing to improve the behaviour of the bar staff who appeared to be out of the control of management and did exactly as they pleased including playing their choice of music very, very loudly. This music was Turkish and seemed to be tribal drumming.
After 4 days of this I spent my time and money elsewhere.

This was our first time in turkey & what can I say it was great, the staff at this hotel are always happy to help( Just want to say hi to Taz, Merit & Ozzy the pool bar staff who made or holiday fun) This place is out standing the pool was great for us & our kids, the rooms are cleaned on a daily base we where in a 1 bedroom apartment which was good etc for the cooking equipment (Electric hot plates) so do be planing on eating in your room, our friends where in a studio which was small but it was still nice & clean. If you are looking for excursions then I recomend you go to Hoso (Next Door To The Golden Spoon) He took great care of us & all his trips where as he promised, so If you do go say hi from the Delooze family & I'm sure he take good care of you. We wher a large party of 12 consisting of 6 Adults & 6 Children & nothing was to much trouble for any of the turkish people, There is nothing that I could complain about the whole place is great, but if you want loud music then you would need to get a taxi to gumbet but its only a 10 min ride that cost no more than 11 lyra, we wen a few times & it was also great, but if you choose to each chines go to the red dragon & the taxi is free, Well that all I can write at the min but We are fussy people with regards our holidays & this was perfect.

We were very impressed with these apartments having stayed there twice previously. The staff made the holiday truely memorable and we made lots of friends. The apartments are situated near enough to the busy resort of Gumbet and Bodrum but far away to enjoy the quieter side of the holiday. Murat, Mehmet,Foruk, Billy,Max and all the staff were brilliant Nothing was too much trouble. If you want a relaxing holiday this is the place. Already booked for next year.

There were 3 adults on this holiday as my friend Milly had joined us for a break having been a bit poorly. We were told we would have a large family room, but when we arrived the room was very small, with 3 single beds in a row,1 of which was right in front of the wardrobe, which meant we had to push the bed sideways to open the wardrobe door. The hotel didnt have a larger room to offer us so we made up our minds to cope as best we could,& I have to say,it caused some hilarity, arranging changing clothes etc,but we worked out a routine which worked ok for us.The hotel is very pleasant, set among lime trees which perfumed the air beautifully,& there were 2 pools 1 large with loungers & umbrellas free of charge. The cooking facilities were very basic with a tiny hotplate,no pots, but there were plates etc.The hotel has a nice restuarant which served excellent cheap breakfasts & lunches, but the evening meals were not so good.Bitez is small, but has a great selection of restuarants,so we were not stuck for places to eat at night. The hotel staff are very friendly,& worked extremely hard at seeing everyone was happy. It was clean,& we were kept well supplied with linen & towels.Bitez is well placed for trips, which we booked with a local company down by the beach,& they were very much cheaper than the reps tours.Bitez is not a place for night life, but its very close to Bodrum where most of the younger guests would head for.Txis are cheap,& the bus services were good, stopping right outside the hotel door.I would recommend this hotel, but not if theres more than 2 sharing a room.I dont know how people with young children would manage comfortably. There were no kids when we there staying, but the size of the rooms could cause problems I would think.
