“hotel and food ok but entertainment rubbish”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

this hotel was ok food excelent but cleansenes was not up to scratch there were cobwebs around doors windows not cleaned bedding only changed once in 7 days, as for the entertainment well rubbish comes to mind, they played games at night but was the same every night, they did party music for the kids but left it too late for them and only played music for the adults for about an hour. would only go back to this hotel if it improves.

Room Tip: looks good from outside

I guess all reviews are written from your own perspective, so here is mine we went for 7 days 21st July to 28th , I booked at 1.15pm and we flew 6.15pm the same day from Newcastle booked direct with Bluesea Holidays (part of Hayes Travel) and are a 48 and 55 year old couple, one of which is a veggie who were looking for a relaxing quiet time. We arrived in the middle of the night and were placed in a ‘spare’ room until ours came free the following day, okay not great but I used it to my advantage by refusing to pay for late room check out (normally 12 o’clock) and kept our room until 5pm on day of leaving.
The hotel like most in the area is on a steep hill side so yes there are lots of steps, however as long as you don’t try and run up and down in the heat and you don’t have a heart condition or joint issue the ‘over 45’s’ can manage without issue so the review we read stating otherwise was obviously written by someone the lower side of 30! The views over the sea are lovely from the dining area or terraced area perhaps not so grand from the rooms but can be seen. Our room 2071 was small but clean, quiet, nice terrace area with working air con, we had one issue with the toilet but that was sorted straight after we reported it. We used the safe in the room to keep money and passports safe in (small daily fee) but left several cameras and laptop ‘hidden’ in room with no issues.
I have never stayed at a hotel that had guests from so many different countries so if you want either British company or British food don’t bother however as we were not looking for either it was fine.
As for the food I have stayed in a number of all inclusive resorts for around the same price and can say this was the best for meals, however I would add if you have children with you they might struggle as the meals are not English orientated. Breakfast (8am -10am), cheese, meats, breads (plenty off and very nice), jam / honey / chocolate spread, cereals, boiled eggs, with freshly cooked omelette or pan cakes on alternative days. Never ending stream of coffee, tea, fruit teas, and juice available. Lunch (12-2pm) soup, usually choice of rice or pasta and a potatoes option along with a couple of hot meat dishes with a choice of 1 or two vegetable dishes. Hugh range of salads / cheese although many have either mint, fennel or coriander in them with may not suit everyone but personally I found nice. Number of very syrupy sweets / cakes, no ice cream choice, (none at all other than at small shop to buy, so may be an issue with small children). Again plenty of bread with a choice of wine (red or white) beer or soft drinks. Snacks (3.30pm – 5pm) chips and burgers served from lower pool area (underneath restaurant). Tea (5pm-6pm) mainly biscuits and cakes. Dinner (7pm – 9pm) similar to dinner time choice. So far as flies, yep there were some but again what do you expect in an open air setting, above the food area are a number of the lights to zap them, food is covered to best of their ability and neither my partner or I were poorly (unlike Egypt last year when we lost days of our holiday!).
I can’t comment on the entertainment staff as we didn’t want to be entertained so didn’t look for them, staff in general were polite not chatty but when we asked for something it usually wasn’t an issue. I did use internet area 6 Turkish lire for an hour which I thought was very reasonable and had a treatment at spa £25 for massage and facial (along with Turkish bath). Probably could have got it cheaper but didn’t want the hassle.
3 different pool areas we stayed at top pool near our room so can only really comment about this but staff constantly collecting cups and swimming pool itself clean however other two pools seemed to be the same, bar area at top and bottom pool with access to coffee, tea, fruit tea, water, various fruit drinks and beer, 7 up and Pepsi. My only observation would be a few more umbrellas would be useful as it was very hot and little shade at this time.
Overall we had a quiet relaxing time. I would say this probably suits couples more than families and guess my teenage children had they been with me would have been bored stupid but it was exactly what I wanted / needed.

Booked for a week - changed flights and came home after 3 days. We were the only English at the time and felt isolated and vulnerable. No Kids Club at all. No other teenagers at all. Rooms small, dated and dirty - the bathroom is grim. The food is bad - they use the meats left over for several days after. We do not expect English food when we go abroad and will try anything but this food you just cannot tell what it is at all. But the flies on it seemed to like it. The animation team do nothing during the day except sit with fellow Turkish travellers and smoke. There is no entertainment at all during the day and not much at night. For the money you spend it is a total rip off, total. There were lots of Turkish men there who just stare at the women smoking behind dark classes - creepy. I feel very sorry for you if you are going here soon - hope it improves for you

Just got back from our holiday, we were staying in a club room that sleeps 2 people, overall the room was very small and basic although we did have a nice big terrice. We had the promiced air con and bathroom facilties, but the air con did leak one night and the shower didnt seem to drain away and therefore left a pool of water on the bathroom floor. The air con was sorted out very fast tho so cant complain. Be aware tho the hotel rooms are alot more modern than the club rooms, it seems money has been spent in the main hotel area rather than the club rooms.
We arrived at 4 in the morning an although reception was manned, there wasnt much of a welcome, very short an sharp and then very promptly showed to our room. No information apart from a small scrap of paper telling us food timings was given to us, it would have been nice to have had more ie a map of were the pools were, how to get back to reception, resturant, and where the informations boards were. As we were not given this we missed our welcome meeting.
There was a good selection of food every day, fresh and good choice of hot and cold, also fresh bread avalible at all meal times, the only thing was if u want a drink from the bar be prepared to que for it. and we would advise to ge there early otherwise finding a table is difficult.
There is a good shuttle bus service to the beach and back every 5 mins, u do have to pay tho its not free. The beach is really nice, loveley views and clear water, the sun longers were free to use, and lots of watersports are avalible.
We would just say dont rely on the Turkish people at the hotel to bend over backwards for you, their very laid back and sometimes can come across misrable!! If you want any information then you need to ask or find out yourself
Overall our stay at Hotel Art Bodrum was enjoyable and relaxing, any problems were minor.

Room Tip: Get a hotel room if you can!!

The bottom line after staying at this hotel is that if you are lucky enough to have a nice room and go by without any incidents, you might have a decent stay. However, if you have any kind of problem or complaint, don’t count on management’s support, your vacation will be ruined. In our case, among other smaller problems, the hotel staff stole money from our room, from my husband’s wallet, and kicked us out afterwards, with mockery and threats. But I will start with the beginning.

My husband and I checked in for 1 week on the 2nd of July, in a claustrophobically small club room which could barely fit one person and has absolutely nothing to do in a so called 4 star hotel. Apparently Art Bodrum has two type of rooms : Club Room and Hotel Room. The Hotel Room is the one you see in all the hotel pictures – nice and spacious, with a normal-sized balcony and modern furniture. The Club Room is small, with old furniture and French balcony which only fits your head. The bed was so small that my husband’s legs stayed in the air in horizontal position and the hotel only gave us one small blanket which although “clean”, was full of stains. Check the photos I’ve posted to see what I’m talking about.
When we asked for a different room, the receptionist told us our agency booked a Club Room and they are all identical. The next day however our travel agent moved us to another Club Room, which was much bigger, with normal sized-beds, so they are definitely not identical, although same quality furniture and same balcony. The first room was number 1000 something, and the second one 2113, so my guess is that 2000 rooms are bigger than 1000 rooms.

We made our peace with the new room and tried to enjoy our vacation. The food was ok, drinks too, however there are always lines at the bar, especially in the evening. The beach is 600m from the hotel and the road is quite abrupt. You have to be really fit to get to the beach if you don’t want to wait for the shuttle. The bus to the beach leaves the hotel at 10, 11, 12 and from the beach back to the hotel at 16, 17, 18. These hours are more appropriate for people who like to spend all day at the beach, we however stayed from 9 to 12 and from 16 to 19, so we never really took that bus.
We definitely did not expect the beach we got. It is a closed golf, which looks a lot like a harbor and doesn’t really offer the expected sea view with the sea-sky horizon. Sunbeds are free, but you have to pay for drinks at the bar. There isn’t really an Art Bodrum beach, only several bars which offer free sunbeds, but charge you for drinks.

Now about the theft. On Monday we exchanged some euro to go to Bodrum. From Monday evening to Wednesday afternoon we did not check the money in my husband’s wallet because we didn’t need any. The whole time the wallet was in my purse, in the closed closet. On Wednesday afternoon, when we decided to exchange some more money, we realized that 210 euros were missing from the wallet. The thief only took half of the amount, I suppose he or she thought we wouldn’t notice. That was not the case, we knew exactly how much we had and what we spent. We always locked the balcony and the room when we left it, so the only person who could have stolen the money must have had a key. The day before our room was cleaned, so the cleaning lady was our first suspect.
We called our travel agent and he came to the hotel. He talked to the hotel manager – Mr. Berthan (I am not sure about the spelling), who did not offer us any support whatsoever and cynically encouraged us to go to the police. And so we did, we went to the police and made a statement. The next morning, before leaving for the beach, we stopped at the reception to ask the hotel manager if there was any update on our case. He got really mad, said the police came to the hotel the day before and that he no longer wants of “offer us service”. He said our agency will move us to another hotel, that he believes we are lying to get a new room, that he will sue us for hurting that woman and that we will have problems when leaving the country. He also said we must pack our bags immediately or he will send somebody to pack our things for us. We were shocked to see that after the hotel steals from us, they are threatening us and kicking us out like we were some criminals.

If you are thinking of Bodrum as your vacation destination, I strongly recommend that you put some more money into a well rated 5 stars hotel, on the beach, to have a well-deserved vacation. We paid a lot of money and received bad service, unprofessional treatment, theft and threats. Don’t spend your money at Art Bodrum, you deserve better then that!

Very clean Hotel, pleasant staff, breath taking views, the hotel was built on a cliff, which means the beach is down alot of zig-zag roads, I did find this abit heavy on my knees, should have checked before we booked, however, it didn't spoil the holiday, We ate out at Gumbet alot, so can't comment about the food, great shopping, loved the dolma bus. The staff here were first class !

Room Tip: all the rooms had a good view
