When I look back on our holiday at Tosunoglu, my stand-out memory is that of the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff there.
From the owner to the cleaners, everyone was just so lovely. Especially Rambo, the barman/chef. With the help of his assistants, he makes all the food there, using ingredients from the gardens around the apartments. He gave us a tour of his produce one day, and offered us fresh pears from the tree, whilst showing off his peppers, chillies, pomegranates, potatoes and loads more. What he cooked up from those home-grown ingredients is even more amazing and great value for money. My friends and I tried most dishes in the course of the week, (we were self catering and planned on making most of our meals ourselves, but the food was such great value that we decided to save ourselves the bother) from cheese and ham toasties, chicken burgers, and salads, to curries and traditional Turkish casseroles and the famous "clay pot". With prices ranging from 6TL for the salad to 25TL for the clay pot, (which works out at about £3 to £13), you can't go wrong, especially as you consider that all the food is made on site from home-grown ingredients. Rambo doesn't scrimp on portion sizes either and all of it tastes amazing!
The pool at Tosunoglu is a decent size, plenty of room for everyone and lots of inflatables around for guests to use. There were also ample sun loungers during our visit at the end of June. Something we noticed whilst spending our days lounging round the pool was that Tosunoglu attracts a wide range of guests, from couples to families to younger groups like ourselves, who didn't want to stay in a typical 18-30 hotel.
The apartment was clean and very simple – basic kitchen and lounge area, bathroom with a reasonably powerful shower, and a bedroom with pretty comfy beds. Our only problem as four party girls was the lack of wardrobe space and the single mirror! The apartment was cleaned daily, and I would recommend investing in the air con that is offered for £30 a week.
Location-wise, Tosunoglu is spot-on. 5 minutes from the beach, 5 minutes from the strip of bars, but far enough away that you can get to sleep at night. It is also not far from Bodrum which has a waterpark and the largest outdoor nightclub in Europe.
For younger party people like ourselves: We took part in some of the excursions that Thomson offered us upon arrival. For £90 we went on a bar crawl, to the water park, to Bodrum for a night out (including entry to Halikarnas nightclub) and on a chill out cruise. This was the “middleweight” package. DEFINTELY do it! It works out cheaper and you get to meet loads of people your own age, as well as have some amazing experiences. Halikarnas is just amazing, the most random nightclub ever! Thomson will pick you up from outside the hotel for all of these excursions so there is no hassle.
Overall, we had the best experience ever – this was our 3rd girls’ holiday, and it worked out the cheapest but the best. Tosunoglu is just so cheap for food and drink, it is in a beautiful and convenient location, and the staff will go out of their way to help you in any way. Apartments are basic but clean and the pool and bar more than make up for this. Definitely recommended and I will be back there next year!
