We booked the hotel with Teletext holidays, the holiday wasn't a package but flights and transfers were included in the price. I read many of the reviews after booking and because I knew we didn't have a seaview room I insisted that we had a room with a balcony. In fact we got a room on the ground floor which had what could loosely be described as a terrace, which was tiny and had a wall immediately infront of it! If we stepped outside we could just about see daylight! The room was large and pleasant but the maid did little to keep our room clean and replenish the toiletries, until we complained, then it improved. Bedding and towels were clean and white.
The weather was extremely hot and there didn't seem to be anywhere in the hotel where you could sit and be cool. My gin and tonics weren't enjoyable because the mixers weren't kept in the fridge, were warm ,and the ice was sparingly given because it had to be carted from the kitchen in large cool boxes ..... the lifts were constantly in use by staff who had to use them to get stuff around the hotel.
You must remember that this is a muslim country, they do not eat pork, so hence the strange looking salami and sausages etc, and of course no bacon or ham.Breakfast was poor, not because of the lack of bacon but because what was on offer was disgustingly poor quality. The butter was rancid and sometimes there was none at all, just the most disgusting margarine. The jams too, were pretty horrible and completely devoid of flavour. The pastries were plentiful but they were so awful no-one seemed to eat them. There were cornflakes but no chioce of milk, so it was full fat or nothing. Then the cornflakes dissappeared from the menu! There were however Amercan style pancakes and some fruit but nothing like the five star breakfasts I've eaten in other hotels.
Lunch and dinner are much better, plenty of choice and a barbeque each evening. Mid afternoon you can get a Carte-dor ice cream by the pool, but hurry it's only on offer for an hour, or a Turkish pancake with a savoury filling, not to be confused with sweet pancakes.
The small sandy beach is private and kept clean by the hotel for the exclusive use of guests, sunbeds, mattresses and parosols are free, the beach towels too... no deposit required.
If you visit this hotel with the expectation of a luxury 5star you will be dissapionted. It is a modern hotel but not luxurious in any way. It lacks outside and inside space... there are no gardens, and every evening the staff clear all the sunbeds from around the pool and do a mammoth clean up so that the overspill from the dining room can be accommodated. This is also where the entertainment takes place. There is constant piped music in the 6th floor bar and the dining room which is dreary and out of date..... who wants to listen to Autumn Leaves over and over again. The pool bar plays different music which can be heard from the dining room and 6th floor bar. It all adds up to a nuisance which has to be endured !
We went to Turkey because we wanted to visit Ephesus, visit Bodrum castle, and take the hydrofoil to the Greek island of Kos and this hotel was in a good location for getting around, but we won't be going back.
Many people pay extra for a seaview room at this hotel, possibly because of all the bad reviews.The...
