We've been going to Bitez for a few years now having moved on from Gumbet.
For a start it is much more relaxed. Less hassle than Gumbet and Bodrum when walking along, and much quieter and less commercialised or geared towards the holidaymakers. A few good restaurants to eat at too (Almera and Bambu of worthy note, superb...)
The whole beachfront has a nice relaxing ambience to it that you simply don't get in Gumbet or Bodrum. Plenty of restaurants and bars, and a quant little market shopping area.
For a nice spot to do some sunbathing and take a dip I'd recommend the section directly in front of Bambu. Great staff and great service. Also a good place to eat.
You'll notice that you'll be surrounded by alot of Turkish families enjoying their holidays. Bitez is a popular destination with the Turks, so it must be doing something right.
Beach if great (if a little stony) and water is clear and clean. Great little cove with great views.
We usually have a few half days lazing down on the beach during our stay and find it a thoroughly pleasant and relaxing place. It is however just as nice in the evening for a beer or dinner.
If you are after a hotel in Bitez, we would thoroughly recommend the Meis Apartments. 5 minute walk from the beachfront and a great place to stay.
