We stayed at the Rixos for a week at the beginning of June. We travel a lot and I always spend a lot of time researching hotels before we go and this trip was no exception. In fact where we stay is more important than where we go. The Rixos did not disappoint.
As you enter the hotel you are impressed by the beautiful lobby (with a fabulous view) and are immediately welcomed with a delicious lemon cocktail. The front of desk staff were very helpful and within a short time we were in our room. It was a long way up the hill and at the beginning we thought we would never make the daily trek - but after a day or so the walk gets easier and by the end of your trip you feel fitter than before. I would however not recommend it for people who do have walking problems and would definitely ask that you be booked in the main building.
Our room was very large with a balcony and sea views. As it was in the 4000 building previous reports had said that you could hear the road noises. We could not - there was occasional noise from resort vehicles but not from the main road. My only complaint for noise would be the island disco. It started at 11:30pm and did not finish until 3:30am. It was very loud and would have kept us awake had it not been for my white noise machine and ear plugs. The noise did seem a bit excessive considering that the majority of the guests at that time were probably in bed and not at the disco. But this minor complaint is just that - a minor complaint. Everything else about the Rixos was perfect.
The food was wonderful and so much of it. Yes you did have to book the night before - but I never found that a problem - in fact it became a challenge to get in there first and get the restaurant we wanted. Our favourite was the Onyx (fish restaurant). The food was wonderful with the most beautiful sunset as backdrop. Also we loved the Italian restaurant. We thought the quality of food was as good as you would get in any top restaurant in London. The service in all of the restaurants was exceptional. Everybody was so friendly and spoke good English. Usually in an all-inclusive the alcoholic drinks are watered down - but not at the Rixos - in fact they were probably double shots.
We stayed during the first week of the European Cup. A big screen was set up - along with sun loungers - and it was fun watching the games with other nationals (shame though that British teams were not playing). But it was great - towels were brought out to keep us warm, drinks and popcorn were distributed and it was just such a fun atmosphere.
We loved the Rixos and would go back in a second. You will not be disappointed.
