We booked two weeks in the fuga to have a relaxing break. Well, it was definitely relaxing and we would return as the resort / hotel itself is just stunning, the hotel is immaculate - your rooms are cleaned every day, the quality of the food is v high and the facilities available in the day are great. Like everyone else has said the cushions around the jetty and the pool are lovely. The staff are really friendly and although there is a really steep hill, they provide both a panoramic lift and shuttle bus regularly to make this easier.
However, we found a couple of draw backs as did several other couples we met up with:
- There is absolutely NO evening entertainment, except on two nights (out of 14) they had a live band in the bar for an hour or so (but weren't great).
- There are a lot of extra's - fresh juice, ice-cream, drinks at the mongolian restaurant, drinks after 12, cocktails, drinks in the mini bar as well as the usual imported drinks which you expect.
- The other 'a la carte' restaurant is closed until June (which we didn't know until we arrived) and you only have one go at the mongolian despite this.
- The food in the main restaurant, although the quality is good - it is repeadative - really repeadative - Turkey, egg plant, tomato spaghetti and stir fry and served every night - it became a joke amongst the couples we socialised with re: the amount of turkey and stir fry that was served daily (lunch and dinner)
- The food at the beach bar is nice and breaks up having to go to the main restaurant 3 times a day but is only open until 4 - there is no food available between 4pm and 7:30pm (ice-creams etc are chargeable)
- The food at the mongolian a la carte is a joke, for a start it isn't a la carte as you have no choice in what you have - we expected a choice of steaks / fish etc - you are given you starters (dried smoked salmon on lettuce followed what can only be decribed as gravy browning broth with a few pieces of carrot in it) and your main is - you guessed it - STIR FRY!!! You do get a choice of meat though (that's it) - and unless you want to spend money you can accompany your meal with an soft drink you like!!! (hardly a la carte)
- This isn't the fault of the fuga - but don't go any earlier than June, the nights are freezing (as in coats, scarfs etc) and there is only one bar and it is all open...........
- Rooms - although we liked the minamilist style - they are now in need of some touch up work as they are statrting to look more shabby than shabby chic - the cable only has one english channel (hallmark) which mysterioulsy was unavailable for teh last 4 nights. There are no tea and coffee facilities, depending where you are you are a v steep hill away from the bar and the drinks in the mini bar are chargeable except water - so it's not easy to have a drink in your room. Also, they will stop re-stocking your mini bar with water automatically - phone reception and ask them to deliver!!!
- When / if you do decide to buy something - don't! The prices will cripple you (£10 for a tube of pringles and a pkt of peanuts)
- Last thing - if you are unfortunate to have an early morning flight like we did it is a miserable day - you are kicked out of your room at noon, to spend 11 hours until your coach picks you up killing time, there are no shower facilities so you may not want to use the poolside etc and they take your towel cards anyway. Technically your A/I stops at checks out - although it isn't policed (so we still had our meals) BUT they say that if you want anything it is chargeable, but nowhere accepts cash and you don't have a room card to charge it to - so that makes things tricky!!!
I know I have put a lot of things in here quite negative - but as I said we would return - but would know what to expect, we just felt a little hoodwinked that we hadn't been told about all the extra's etc when we booked it (if you know about it this shouldn't ruin your trip) As for the food - can't fault the quality and cleanliness - just the variety - we have said that if we go back we would refrain from doing the brit thing of 'having a bit of everything' as that would stop you eating the same thing so often........... And the resort really is stunning, it really really is.
