“great hotel in bodrum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We stayed for 10 nights at the salmakis beach and spa in bodrum. We were allocated room 114 which Is definately an overflow room so we were initially disapointed after seeing the bedroom photos online which looked bigger, however after speaking to other guests we found our room was actually a good size as others were suprisingly small, so don't be misled by the photos of the standard rooms. We had more positives being in 114, on same level as pool, bar and restaraunt so its agreat room and would request it again. The staff are very helpful and the hotel is clean. The food was excellent lots of variety. By the pool plenty of beds so no need to save! With towels, some beds are like single beds!!Plenty of choice from the bar even cocktails in the all inc. There is boat taxi right on the beach to take you over to bodrum, also Gumbet close by so Salmakis is perfectly placed to get to either. We have already booked to go back!! Overall a great hotel. Mrs Symons

The service was impeccable and delivered with a genuine desire to please, particularly in the restaurant. The rooms were clean and well equipped, the pool was lovely.
All efforts were made to provide everything needed for an excellent holiday, my only suggestion would be for more 'animations' or daytime entertainment laid on for those that want it, as apart from the little boat ferry across to town it was a 15 minute walk along a fairly main road into town to find anything different to do apart from eat and eat and eat and relax!! (although we were there in early May so more things may have been laid on later in the season?)

Room Tip: room 724- lovely sea view and on the same level as the reception/bar/lounge but a long way down to...

Me and my sister went for 11 days to Salmakis Beach Resort & Spa.
We had great time; the personel at the hotel was very kind, friendly, professional and helpfull. Especially the celebration of our new King; Prins Willem Alexander was rememberable!
Orange drinks, orange flags, the works! We had a great day and night! With thanks to the personel of the restaurant and the assistant Food & Beverage manager ofcourse.

The animation guy had his hands full to entertain the guests; because most of the time he had to do it by himself. (start of the season) But he did a fantastic job!! He took us to Gümbet to X-bar! That was a really awesome club! Open air disco! (We really recommend it) The taxi was taken car of by the animation guy Tolga, to Gümbet and back to the hotel. (only 10 minutes)

The food at the hotel was delicious, fresh and plenty variety. The restaurant at the pool side was very clean. The cooks are standing proudly beside the buffet!

The big, soft, white beds at the pool were my favorite. Could lie down on them all day!

The hotel is clean, the garden was daily trimmed, the pool daily cleaned.
There even was enough to do! (Volleyball was fun and the Hamam really relaxing)

There even was a taxiboat to Bodrum. (for 6 lira p.p). This little taxiboat will bring you to Bodrum in less than 5 minutes. Can't say very much negative things of the hotel except for the many stairs. No problem for young people like us, but I could imagine it could be for people of age. And maybe the drama with our roomkey. (Electric chipkey and every day we had to walk 4 times to the reception to get it solved. Eventuallyafter 5 days it worked... And I still don't understand why they put carpet in the hotelrooms... Not very higienic..

But that was nothing, compared to the great time we had. The weather was great, our stay was rememberable, the food was delicious, the personel and waiters were very friendly and professional! Especially waiter Gebat; once you meet him, you never forget him!

We especially want to thank the personel (Tolga, Gebat, Necip, Ferhat and many others) for making our stay at "Salmakis Beach Resort & Spa" unforgettable!!!

Room Tip: We had a room with a view on a beautiful garden. No sea-sight, but that wasn't a problem.

Well, what could I say about this hotel that hasn't been said already. The rooms are comfortable and the one we stayed in (room 511) had a view over the gardens although not great, it made for quiet nights away from the general hub-bub of the bar and sea front side. One downside was that the walls must be quite thin as you can hear the guests in the room next door, especially in the bathroom. My wife and I went all-inclusive and this meant we also got a safety deposit box for free too.

Be prepared for steps, many steps. Everywhere we went there were steps, up to reception, down to the bars, pool and beach. they will certainly keep you fit during your stay. There are lifts however. The room numbers don't seem to collate with the floors and it was easy to loose yourself in the huge corridors and rooms. One drawback we was that there didn't seem to be any way to get to the restaurant by the pool without going outside and during our stay we did have some rain and you'd have got wet trying.

The staff were brilliant and very attentive. They spoke English to varying degrees but it was never an issue. The guests were mainly Dutch,Germans, Russians, Italians and a few Brits and made for some interesting conversations as everyone conversed in English as the Lingua Franca. The hotel itself has a great view across the bay to Bodrum and the castle. There is a water ferry that goes approx every 1/2 hour from 8am to late evening - look for the times on the jetty for the last return boat and costs 6 Turkish lira per person each way. It can be caught from the next hotel along the beach (just walk through their grounds - no problem) and drops you off in the harbour right by the castle. you can also walk to Bodrum centre from the hotel - it's downhill all the way but a struggle on the return as the hills are steep.

The food laid on was of very good quality and varied daily and I can vouch for the great puddings as they were very tasty. There was plenty of choice between hot/cold items however I'd never seen boiled carrots as a breakfast item before nor deep fried broccoli either. There was plenty of seating available either inside or outside.

Watch out for the local wildlife. The sparrows know when meal times are and will descend on the outside restaurant waiting for their chance to nick your bread rolls ! Whatever you do don't leave your plate unattended as they'll be on it as soon as you turn your back. The birds are quite tame and will happily sit on your table watching while you are eating. The sparrows will also let you know when it's time for tea & biscuits at 5pm as they'll start congregating around the tea stand about 10 minutes beforehand. Another thing, there are several cats that frequent the restaurant as well as the hotel gardens, looking for scraps. Don't try to stroke them as I feel they are probably semi wild and aren't very friendly and would just as likely go for your hands. I learnt this the hard way.

The pool area and pool bar are great but be wary of the paving around the bar away from the pool, especially the larger rectangular paving around the bar area as when these are wet they act like you're walking on ice. Flip flops and bare feet are inadvisable as you can slip very easily. The pool is the same depth all round but has gentle steps into it. There are plenty of sunbeds by the pool and down on the private beach. The sunbeds also have mattresses to make them more comfortable.

The spa is well equipped with everything you could ask for. Some things are included in your stay but there are other treatments that are an additional cost. These will be pointed out to you should you take up any of the treatments on offer.

If you need to keep your room on if you are leaving late afternoon or later (checkout was at 12pm) then the cost we were given was 50 Euro (110 TL) subject to availability however you are able to use the spa facilities to shower/change if you are leaving late and don't want to extend your room stay. If you cannot keep your room for the extra hours then the hotel may offer another room at the same cost subject to availability.

Would we recommend this hotel - you bet. We are already thinking of going back again.

Room Tip: Garden view rooms are set back from the main hotel and you may have plenty of steps to encounter to...

One of the Best hotels I ever managed to stay at. Great views, excecellent food, very clean and good amenities including sauna, steam room and jacuzzi. Water is very clear in the sea but not much to see in terms of marine life while snorkling. Price was very reasonable for 5 nights but I guess due to low season in April. 10 minutes to walk to centre of Bodrum. But, frankly, I rather stay at the resort when it has so much to offer. To explore the town- Bodrum castle the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (one of the wonders of the World) can be considered. The only thing which didnt feel right- same CD was palying at the beach constantly and it hasd like 7-8 songs in total and in the restaurant staff constantly walking up and down which gets to you eventually. guess not their fault- they do want told to do by management.

Without hesitation would recommend to anyone considering a nice and relaxing holidays. It was an amazing 5 days stay after intense 5 days exploration of Istanbul beforehand.
Enjoy folks!

PS. Ian S on previous review- unfortunate and hilarious incident with you guys getting locked out on the balcony. You don't get often to see guests standing on a hotel roof and shouting for HELP in the middle of the night :)

Room Tip: Sea view if you stay not for too long

I'll be honest as I can about this place... I was debating giving it 3 or 4 stars, but decided the former and I'll explain later...
Firstly, this is a great resort/spa without having to break the bank at places in central Bodrum. We came at a time of year (April) that is super quiet but apparently picks up significantly by the end of the month. Getting from the airport you can catch the shuttle into central Bodrum then taxi. If you're stuck with a late night flight like we were, you're looking at a very steep 35 min cab ride. It was a flat 100 TL, and we couldn't bargain that down either (likely because they knew we had no choice). Salmakis is atop a hill and away from the crowds but it's easy to get into town. It's a short walk downhill and even with the return uphill, it was maybe 15-20 minutes from the end of the main Bodrum strip/harbor. To the castle, you're looking more like 30 minutes. The alternate way is a bus that is just outside the resort that is 3 TL and runs the opposite direction you expect (away from Bodrum) as it loops around the Gumbet neighbourhood (which is where the Salmakis staff live)... it's an enjoyable ride and you can consider this a cheap tour of the area. We also wasted time trying to figure out how to use the water taxi that we had heard about, but finally found out it only runs in the summer months from May 1 to October.
The staff are friendly, the food is great, although I can imagine spending any longer than 3 days and you'd get sick of the breakfast despite it's supposed variety.
We treated ourselves for a spa day which was quite enjoyable. As it was low season, we were able to bargain our Hamas (Turkish bath) and Bali massage to 150 TL/person (I think the set price was originally 100 euros). All their other facilities are well kept and clean (LOVE their steam room), but their hot tub is luke warm at best.
Now what bumped this rating down to 3. When we arrived that evening, we were put in a room with 2 single beds. Upon requesting one with a larger bed, they told us only their oceanfront rooms had Kings. At only 20 TL extra a night, this was a very affordable upgrade (which I recommend because the view is quite nice). We got to our room and the place was smokey. The manager admitted all their rooms have ash trays and smell of smoke despite asking guests only to smoke on the balconies. Next we found out the lights would go out every 1-2 minutes despite placing our card in the slot properly. When we finally thought they were working, we went out on our balcony and when we closed the door, the balcony door locked on us. Seconds later, the lights went out again so we were stuck in almost pitch black. I had to climb onto the roof from the balcony to finally get help. Since the electrical couldn't be figured out, we were moved to the only available alternate room where it was even smokier and the shower was broken. I know that these horror stories do exist and I'm never usually one to fault the overall quality of a place, but knowing that most rooms probably smell like smoke and considering this is supposed to be a "nice resort" I couldn't bring myself to give it a 4. Overall I would still recommend it and I would still probably come back because the value you can get is unbeatable and the staff are great (waiters, lifeguards and just super friendly....they just LOVE getting to know the guests). Just know what you're getting into and don't expect a 5 star resort from back home. Taking a walk and looking at nearby resorts, you can tell Salmakis is still one of the better maintained locations!

*Oh...and for grabbing a taxi home, make sure you walk up and arrange for your own taxi (its 69 TL on the way back). If the hotel arranges it for you, they quote 100 TL as they get a commission.

Room Tip: Get oceanfront for sure!! If you're staying mostly on the resort, a room located closer to the...

We stayed for 3 nights at the Salmakis in April, so just before the busy season began. Worked out well for us as the weather was great but the hotel nearly empty so we had practically a private beach. We went for the all inclusive option as the hotel is a bit removed from the center of Bodrum ( 10 min, 20Lira cab ride). The food was really good at the hotel and the all inclusive option proved to be very good value for us. Apparantly in high season (which begins May 1 we were told) the hotel offers a water shuttle into Bodrum center which would open up some eating options. The room was fantastic, very comfortable beds, lots of space, big bathroom with soaker tub and lovely sea view balcony. The beach was beautiful - and no where near as rocky as I'd expected, could be a result of the staff sifting rocks out of the sand for the entire day I spent at the beach in preparation for high season!! Pool was really nice too and the all the staff we dealt with were truly fantastic! All in all I would go back to the Salmakis for sure!
