I cannot stress enough - stay away from this place!!
We had been doing budget accomodation in Greece so thought this so called 3* hotel would be a treat (although the Greek hotels were pretty good even on budget). On the internet it looks great. But note how they don't show many photos of the rooms!!
They have a great pool (fantastic for kids) but there is no shallow end so keep an eye on the kids. They do have spas, turkish baths which you pay extra for. Thats about it for the good stuff. So what was wrong.....
Given that Bodrum is catered for tourists, the locals English is very poor. Our taxi driver could not even read "Delfi Hotel" from my email or understand which hotel we were saying and had no idea where he was going. The hotel staff's english again was very limited but you can get by. One of our pre-requisties is that it must have air conditioning - and yes it does but you have to pay for it!! They keep the remote control!! (Although you can maunally start it without the remote, if you know how). Mind you the air conditioner was pretty useless. It looked and sounded like it was from the 70s. It did a poor job of keeping us cool.
Upon arrival, we were told the hotel was full and could not be given our standard double room. We had however, been upgarded to the family suite - more like the family dungeon. This had 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom had 2 single beds pushed together (not really an issue) but the room was stinking hot - no air conditioner in this room. The kids room had a bunk bed and again stinking hot as no air conditioner. The lounge/kitchen area was dodgy. It had a camp bed in the corner, one one-seater couch and a tv (which had all turkish channels). Th kitchen was from the 40s and the mini fridge was so mini we couldn't even fit in our 1.5 litres water bottle unless we removed the shelves. Not a suitable fridge for a family suite!! But this room had the air conditioner. But as it was so crap, no air went to the other rooms so if you were sleeping in those rooms you would have died. So we had to resort to moving a mattress from the bedroom and placing it in the kitchen so that we could sleep with some air. The bedsheets althoug were clean seemed to look and feel dirty. The bathroom had a broken shower screen but did the job for our 3 day stay.
When we thought nothing else could go wrong - we came home at about 11pm and to our surprise there was a wedding reception going on in the pool area. Not really an issue but the band had blocked our entrance to our rooms. We had to find someone to help us get to our room. Once there, it was difficult to sleep due to the band music that continued on till after midnight. We were lucky, we were on the 1st floor but for those on the ground floor, the reception was happening right outside their window. We could not believe that there was no warning given to guests about the wedding reception so we were aware of the noise and how to get to our rooms.
Upon checking out, the staff were not aware that we had already paid a 30 pound deposit and was trying to charge us the full amount. Luckily I showed him the email chain so he charged us the right amount.
On the good side - location is superb. Only a 5 -10min walk to the main town and about a 15 min walk to the marina. we did attend a fabulous foam party at Halikarnas night club and also went on a fantastic day boat cruise from the marina.
BUT whatever you do - do not stay at Delfi. Pay double the price and stay in a decent hotel!!
