“Great Potential”

The Hotel Patara Viewpoint

We stayed at this hotel during the school holidays with our very well behaved teenager.

This hotel is a mixture of delightful and outrageous.

The location is superb, the atmosphere was very cosmopolitan and we booked on initial recommendations from The Guardian and other websites.

All other guests were extremely friendly and kind. We made many good friends and enjoyed communal outings to different locations including canoeing and meals at local restaurants.

There is a definate problem with Mustapher however and he is part-owner with his partner Anne-Louise. She works incredibly hard to make the whole thing work. He makes neat work of destroying it. Mustapher was rude, unpleasant, arrogant and without doubt hostile to the many young people and children staying there at the time. I honestly feel they would be better to make this hotel an adult only environment as we felt the children could not move a muscle before Mustapher would pounce on them and send them to their rooms. At times it felt like we were at boarding school rather than on a hard-earned and well deserved holiday.

It was such a shame as the location was beautiful and far removed from the commercialism which so often ruins areas of Turkey.

Thankyou for taking the time to express your review on trip advisor. Thankyou also for your positive comments about the hotel, location and the village.
We were disappointed to hear however that your children did not enjoy their stay. Regarding your comments concerning this I would like to make a couple of observations, which I hope may be helpful for future families with children planning to stay at the hotel.
We are a child friendly hotel , we welcome children of all ages at any time and have many families who return year after year during the Spring, Summer and Autumn holidays. For this reason we will never become an 'adult only hotel' as our young guests are as important to us as the adult guests.
At no time would any member of the management or staff ever send a child to their room. Children who are visitors at the hotel are the sole responsibility of their parents. There are occasions however when members of staff have had to remind youngsters of health and safety issues ie: running into the marble area of the hotel without drying off after swimming, as it provides a dangerous and slippery area for others. We have to consider the safety of all guests at all times.
It is unfortunate that the reviewer took a dislike to the hotel owner. Contrary to what has been written here about the owner, he successfully works together with a loyal, hardworking group of staff who have been here for many years and has built up a huge clientele who return year after year. (both children and adults).
We are only sorry that the reviewer did not discuss their concerns at the time of their visit here and then we could have cleared what have obviously been huge misunderstandings.
We realise that we cannot please all of the people all of the time, but would prefer to have the opportunity to rectify any misunderstandings at the time a problem occurs. We certainly aim to learn from any constructive critisism.
If the reviewer would like to discuss any further the issues that caused them discontent during their stay, then please do feel free to get in touch with us directly at the hotel. viewpoint_hotel@hotmail.com or give us a call on the telephone.

This is the second year we have stayed at the view point and it was again fantastic. After having a traumatic few months this year this was the place to come for total relaxation. we stayed around the pool most of the time which is just what we needed, but there are many activities to go on if you wish and Anne-Louise and Muzzafer are the perfect hosts. One of the highlights of the holiday for me was that I swam with dolphins a truly amazing experience. The hotel is spotless and the food is very good. In the village there is a good range of restaurants to choose from and the people are very friendly. In fact only one thing to say about a holiday in Patara staying at the View Point
FANTASTIC

We did not actually stay at the Hotel - the owner was so unpleasant that we left.

Our experience at the Patara Viewpoint was a shock. We had not been to Turkey before and we were having a wonderful time. Everywhere, we had been greeted with warmth and wherever we had stayed or eaten we had received friendly and efficient personal service. We arrived at the hotel and parked the car. A man appeared and told me to move it as it was badly parked. I did so and before I got out of the car he growled "Do you have a room?" We did have a booking, which had been made on our behalf by the previous hotel we had stayed in.
He marched us inside and said he could find no booking. He then loked further and grumpily found one that he said must be for us. He then took us to a room, which looked quite reasonable. We hesitated a moment and then he asked if the room was OK. I said the room was fine but that I was disappointed not to have been treated with the friendliness we had found elsewhere. He then said "Then please go - I don't want you in my hotel". He actually pushed my wife out of the door. Both of us were frightened that he would assault us or damage our car.
It gives me no pleasure to write this, but I would not want others to have the same experience.

Thankyou for taking the time to express your reviews on trip advisor and we are very sorry that you were disatisified with the service you received on arrival at the hotel.
We welcome any comment which can help us to improve our performance, but there are occassions when our perspective differs from that of the reviewer, as is the case here.
We have a small carpark at the front of the hotel and the reviewer arrived at a time when the hotel was busy ( and many guests with cars) and it was a time when many of them were returning from days out. The customer was asked to park his car slightly differently, in consideration of the parking needs also of the other guests.
At times when the hotel is fully booked, we always ask guests if they have made a reservation, so that we can immediately let the guests know of room availability. This reviewer claims that a reservation had been made for them, but infact only a request on room availability had been made. However on this occassion we were able to offer a room meeting their requirements.
The reviewer chose not to stay. However we can guarantee that at no time is any guest or visitor to the hotel under any threat of personal assault or damage to their vehicle.
For all of the staff at the hotel the well being of the guests is of utmost importance.
We are sorry that you felt that you feel that your welcome was intimidating and unfriendly. However if you wish to contact us directly to rectify what have obviously been gross misunderstandings then please do so on viewpoint_hotel@hotmail.com

I went to this hotel on recommendation from a friend. She admitted she was reluctant to tell me about it as it was an unspoilt holiday destination, a well kept secret among a chosen few, and she didnt want to tell too many people about it in case it became over run by tourists and ruined.

Having experienced the Viewpoint, the amazing hospitality of Muzzafer and Ann Louise, the friendly welcoming villagers of Patara and the unbelievable beach i now understand what she meant!

The hotel is set in the hillside a little way from Patara beach. The beach is a conservation area so you pay a small fee to enter but it is more than worth the money to experience the clear water, miles of white sand and not a speck of rubbish in sight.

The hotel is spotlessly clean with a gorgeous pool area surrounded by marble tables where you can dine on turkish/ bbq evenings run twice a week (well worth the money|) and then sit on the ottoman terrace looking at the stars while a cedarwood fire fills the air with a sweet aroma.

I came here in July with my boyfriend Simon on our first holiday abroad together and Muzaffer and Ann Louise could not do enough for us. They were incredibly welcoming, always took time to talk to us and gave the hotel a real community feel. The trips were so amazing and such value for money that we went on one practically every day, from canoeing, and visiting a mountain village for a trout dinner, to the famous lazy days boat trip and the sunken city tour! All the trips are highly recommended and the added touch is that Muzaffer often accompanied us so we always saw a friendly face who was happy to answer queries or tell us about the history of the area we were visiting.

The airport shuttle service is also a great idea - completely removed the stress of trying to get to and from the airport. Well worth it.

We had such an amazing time and will definitely be returning. Have we recommended it to everyone? We have... but only to people we think would treat it with the respect it deserves, as we dont want it to be ruined either!! Having doubts? Read the Guardian review...and then book your flights!!!

The Hotel Patara Viewpoint

Aug 6, 2007

Having visited Turkey for the first time (mself not my partner) we couldnt have picked a better place than Patara and the Viewpoint Hotel.
The hotel, staff, owners, food & service were excellent & very helpful in all aspects of the holiday.

We just needed to unplug & chill out for a week & that's exactly what we did either by the pool or on the beach (both were brilliant)

If you want a bit more activitiy to your holiday then regular trips are available via the Hotel (paragliding, visits to historical sites, or canoeing etc).

The area itself is tranquil and approx an hours drive from the closest airport (dalaman).

The ruins around Patara are amazing & the village itself is unspoilt (with local restaurants serving food into the late night who could ask for more)!
The 18Km beach is amazing & well worth visiting (which we did pretty much every day)

We'll be going back again asap so consider the Hotel Patara Vewpoint recommended!
