Owner description: Much of the city of Patara remains buried in sand, which has helped to preserve many of the ruins. Of particular interest are the Amphitheatre, Necropolis and the monumental gate or Arch of Triumph.

Wonderful, fascinating, beautiful. Could have done with bit more information but magical setting, especially in early evening light.

“Awesome place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 31, 2012

the skills and imagination of ancient romans laid before you. Even 2000 year old graffiti plus the necropolis for a few lira - well worth the trip. with the added attraction of a 10 mile beach and the warm Mediterranean to follow the visit - a truly awesome visit!

“Major attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2012

Patara was the capital of Lycian league and the site today really fits the bill. You can see the theatre, parliament building, but the nicest part is the main columnated street. The archaeologist are still working on the place and the most amazing thing for me was how time destroyed portion of that street. In all these centuries, the street got emerged into swamp. I really look forward how they will dig it up from there. Will come again in few years to see what they are up to.

“ruins in great condition!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

Probably the best looking lycian ruins. Patara is really well renovated. To my mind if you are a not an archeology freek you will enjoy Patara more than others. Proximity of the great Patara beach is also a big advantage.
