“Loved Ankara. Loved Sahinbey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2014

Stayed 3 nights in May 2104. I honestly did not know what to expect from Ankara or Sahinbey, but I loved them both.

Hotel room was clean and larger than I would have predicted. Twin room had two sitting chairs and a desk. Bathroom was large. Everything was clean and in great condition. I have no complaints at all about the room.

Top floor breakfast room offered sweeping views of Ankara. Spectacular way to start the day. Breakfast itself was pretty standard -- boiled eggs, breads, and the unavoidable-in-Turkey cucumbers and tomatoes. Coffee and also-unavoidable tea, too.

Location is pretty nice, although the hotel is a bit tricky to find your first time. You are at the foot of the hill on which Ankara Castle sits, so that puts you maybe 15 minutes walking time from the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations. I tend to walk everywhere, and the hotel is a good 30-40 minute walk from the train station.

The staff was great, although they speak almost no English. One of my big goals for Ankara was to do a day trip to Hattusa. I could find nothing on the internet about how to do that, but hotel offered to assist. When we got there, I asked. Because of language issues, they first thought that I wanted to go and stay over, so they offered bus connections. I managed to explain that I just wanted a day trip. They arranged a private driver (who also spoke almost no English), who took my companion and I there in his car. Cost was $150 total, for both of us, which was WAY cheaper than the private guides on the internet. Hurrah for the Sahinbey staff.

As I mentioned, I loved Ankara. Lots of un- or under-developed attractions. Friendly, helpful people. Government buildings with massive Attaturk banners. Good food. The city is not at all touristy, so it leaves you with the feeling of being really local.

I was jet-lagged and stressed when I arrived and nervous that the taxi driver (from the queue at the central bus station) had to ask several people for directions even though I had the address and a map. The very friendly man at the front desk spoke no English, but escorted me immediately to a lovely room (101) on the 1st floor. I opened the window and found I was looking out into a leafy, green neighborhood with the sound of birds and local children playing.

My room was extremely comfortable with a great bed (mattress, sheets and pillows). The WiFi worked with no problem. The highlight, as others have written, is the sweeping view of the city from the rooftop breakfast room. Breakfast is ample with lots of variety.

It was about only a 10 minute walk up a steep hill the the Museum of Anatolian Civilizations (the reason I was visiting Ankara). It was great to be in a real neighborhood. The little shop across the street has great fresh squeezed orange juice!

Room Tip: I can recommend room 101 highly.

We stayed at the Sahinbey Hotel at the beginning and end of our trip to Turkey. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the room was clean, quiet and modern. In addition there was a very good view from the breakfast room on the top floor.

This was a great value hotel for a solo traveler. The room was spacious, very clean and modern. The service (Ercan) was excellent. They showed great initiative by arranging a hotel transfer, despite the fact I had booked through booking.com. The location was great for the Museum of Anatolian Civilization, the Ankara Hisar and was walking distance from the train station. Decent breakfast on the rooftop terrace and Wifi available. Con: A little difficult to find, but there is a rooftop sign you can look for.

Perfect location for visiting the Anatolian Museum... just 10 minutes uphill from the hotel.
Clean, modern, with no particular frills. Located in the 'old' town with lots of ambiance and much more 'real' than the modern part of Ankara. For intrepid travels with a sense of adventure.
No surprises, helpful staff, but with limited English and French. Breakfast was nothing
to write home about.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2013

I stayed for 2 nights in mid-Feb 2013.
Hotel seemed pretty new and the furnishings were acceptable.
I slept in a standard double room and the bed was nice and comfy.
The location is in the old district and is very near the Civilisations musuem and Ankara citadel - which has its variety of restaurants.
The immediate area surrounding the hotel seems to be a lot of electronic shops, and not much choice for food or restaurants with English. It also gets near pitch dark at night.
None of the taxi drivers knew where the hotel was so it's difficult to find. If all else fails just tell him to drive you to the musuem where you can work you way there.
The staff hardly spoke English but they were helpful nonetheless providing me with LAN cable and helping me get on a taxi.
For the price it's pretty good no-frills.

Overall a pleasant stay, although the room smelled a bit like cigarette smoke, especially in the bathroom. Also, the shower did not drain well, and the bath towels were pretty rough. Otherwise the room was quite spacious and clean, even relatively new-looking. The staff was very friendly and accomodating, helping when we had to move baby gear, and even walking us to an excellent nearby restaurant. We drove our own car, which the staff parked in its own lot underneath the hotel. Although we did not have a great view, the location was convenient to all of the sites in the old part of the city. Breakfast was a standard Turkish buffet, nothing exceptional. A decent stay, especially for the price and location
