Having tried the whole gamut of donut offerings from Dunkin' Donuts to Krispy Kreme to Cello's, I personally believe that J Co Donuts is by far, the best in the market today.
Tracing its roots from Indonesia, this newest foodie favorite, storms Manila with its refreshing and unique dessert selection (not to mention the snazzy way in which they call their donuts) that is not only delicious but also nutritious. Some of their famous ingredients include almonds, avocadoes, green tea, honey & dark chocolate. These are good sources of either vitamins, minerals and/or anti-oxidants helping promote healthy food choices. Indulging your sweet tooth has never been better with J Co.
Consistent in the J Co fare are two things, its soft and perfectly baked dough and the not too overly sweet filling.
Just like most J Co fans, my favorite is the Alcapone. First off, I like anything with almonds. So, choosing a favorite came easily. Second, the sliver of almonds sprinkled on top of the white belgian chocolate brings added texture to the donut making every bite a delight. Third, the almonds' mild flavor complements the sweet taste of the white chocolate. This heady combination contributes to what I now consider, the perfect donut.
My next favorite would have to be Avocado DiCaprio (see what I meant with the snazzy names!). Knowing its nutritional content, I gravitate towards anything that has to do with avocadoes, this one is not an exception. The taste is very light and the sprinkle of chocolate bits on the side make for the additional flavor.
My hubby, on the other hand, loves Choco Loco. A blend of dark chocolate inside and out increasing the sweetness factor up a notch. It is the perfect donut to satisfy the sweet tooth in anyone.
Out of curiosity, I tried the Cheezy Rich (P45), their donut sandwich. Unfortunately, I cannot rave about it as much as I do with the regular donuts. For the layperson (aka me), it is very reminiscent of an ensaymada. And as ensaymadas go, I have tasted better. Cafe Mary Grace for one, offers a better alternative if you are looking for cheese covered pastry or 'donut sandwich'.
I'm not much of a coffee drinker but I heard that most of J Co's donuts are best paired with the JCoccino. I will probably have to test this theory in the near future.
Be prepared to brave the lines though when you go to J Co, as hoarders are aplenty. And I truly cannot blame them. Donuts are at P42 a piece, P230 at half a dozen (P38/pc), P350 a dozen (P29/pc) and P550 for 2 dozens (P23/pc) so, it's always best to buy them in dozens. Besides, hoarding is a must when you have nothing but the perfect donut.
