“Enjoyed the hotel - but not the Patrons..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

I stayed at the Swagman on & off for several nights, using it as a base & taking advantage of their laundry & safe facility (at the front desk) as we traveled around the Philippines which worked well. Some of the hotel staff were great, & really helpful in assisting with our plans - always greeting us with big smiles upon our return & questions on how our trip was. The free airport shuttle was also very helpful. It is a budget hotel, but we found it to be clean. I must admit I did see at least 2 couples arrive on the shuttle; only to be ask to be dropped off somewhere else once they saw their surroundings & were bombarded by the street vendors - I dont know what they were expecting! At the time of our stay there were quite a few street vendors & very young beggers (who were all lovable & we knew by name by the end of our trip), homeless children & families. Humbling is probably a good word to describe the area. Its very convenient & I found it to be safe with general street sense. Ironically - the thing that really ruined this place for us were the solo 'older' Australian patrons. We witnessed them on many occasions requesting for locals - including kids to be sent up to their room. Is was frustrating & so depressing to just have to watch.. It was my first experience the night we arrived at the hotel & I have never been so disgusted. I haven't seen many other posts mentioning this - so I really hope that this is no longer the case. NB: Actual travel date Jan 2008.

well be warned, i stayed there not all that long ago and it was because i had to ok, it was easier to do so for me ,but they will put you in a budjet below ground room it seems ,it has no windows and is /was pink. gr you can hear others making out in other rooms ,its not the best i can tell you, and when going outside for a breather ,be careful of drugg dealers pickpockets and the rest who ask you where you are going . i felt uncomfortable there. It was an overnight stay before flying home.

Actually a very nice place to stay overnight and have a great UK or American style buffet breakfast. Nice bar too. The area is a bit run down and congested, near the US Embassy. Shuttle buses to various points. It's a good place to meet up and set your course...

Room Tip: Try to be on the north west part of the building since the south and east are busy streets.

If your coming to the Philippines for the first time, and not sure where to go, or where to start....start with staying at Swagmans. The have a very good travel center...and this is what makes Swagmans the place to stay or start your vacation. The rooms are decent, but they have hot water and a working aircon..plus TV and a small mini bar(the deluxe rooms). Ive stayed at 2 other well known hotels in angeles city this last weekend(5 star hotels), and Swagmans out did them in the aircon dept...so you can go wrong with the rooms. The location of the hotel is good...7 eleven right across the street..i heard Manla Bay cafe is close by...200 pesos ride to Mall of Asia, and the hotel is about a 600 pesos ride from the airport. the hotel offers free transport to and from the airport every 2 hours/24 hours a day...so an added bonus. The do have a bar(not sure if its 24hours...but it was open late at night anmd early in the morning..so im taking a guess its 24 hours, but i could be wrong. If looking for a ride to Angeles city...this is a good place to get it from. cost is 600 pesos...and the shuttle bus is top notch. View thier webiste for more infomation. Speaking of websites...Swagmans should update their website...their pictures and descriptions dont do the hotel justice. I myself did not stay here on my arrrival, based on the information i got from Tripadvisor...but after visiting the hotel, on my way to Angeles city..I decided to book a room for my return trip back to the USA. The rates are kinda of high in my opinions, but the service they offer, offsets the rates. So start your next trip to the Philippines with Swagmans. BTW...im not a newbie at traveling to the Philippines...ive done multiple solo trips to the Philippines for the last 12 years. First time staying at Swagmans...wont be the last...my new home for the start and end of my adventures!!

Room Tip: Go with a standard if your just staying one night or using the hotel as a transition point.

I have enjoyed brief stays in the Swagman Hotel many times over the past years. It is Australian-run -- and shows it with matey service, great buffet breakfasts and aussie meat
pies on the menu. There's a daily coach service to branches in Angeles and Baguio. The
location, Ermita, is convenient for nearby casual restaurants and nightlife, especially at Remedios circle. Fast access by taxi to the Plaza and Manila hotels for more upmarket
living. In a nutshell -- a friendly and economical hotel.

Room Tip: Choose low floor to avoid occasion lift breakdowns.

The time was 2003,and we where flying Qantas from Sydney to Manila, and we heard on board the flight that the Australia ambassador had been kidnapped, when in fact that the apartment building she was being housed, while the embassy was being renovated and was surrounded by government troups who where rebelling against the arroyo government. So we where picked up by swagman hotel staff at the airport and taken to swagman Ermita and where advised that no transport was running as all roads in and out of Manila where blocked.By 20.30 hrs the siege was over but out bus was in Angeles city still, and not coming until the next day.the hotel was not too bad considering the situation we where in.

I stayed here once because it was recommended for the manila airport pick up service they offer. The airport pick up was over 30mins late. The room and hotel in general was very old, poorly maintained and disgusting. The view out the window was a dirty alley with homeless people arguing and defecating. The bed was uncomfortable and I was covered in bites from bugs in the bedding/mattress. Shower didn't work properly. Never again.

Room Tip: Avoid going there at all
