“First-rate hotel in a developing city”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2009

I stayed at the Hyatt Casino Manila for 5 days during my business trip. It was an excellent hotel, with very courteous and friendly hotel staff. Generally a safe area. Room was well-appointed and clean. Hotel has nice amenities including a casino and a spa. Food at the restaurants was good. It was my birthday and the hotel surprised me with a cake delivered to my room. Very nice gesture. Will definitely return if I visit Manila again. Only negative is that the hotel car to the airport was very expensive.

My boyfriend and I stayed have stayed here twice; more than a week on both times. We loved how there was a casino, great restaurants, a small lounge, and a spa. We were placed on the 30th floor's executive suite and was impressed by the great service their staff provided us.

We had a lot of wonderful memories in this hotel and would recommend it to anyone who'd like a real Manila experience. Just be careful outside the hotel as there are some street vendors who'd offer all sorts of stuff to you, just keep walking like as if you didn't hear anything. I'm sure they wouldn't hurt you or anything. My boyfriend was also approached by women during the times when he'd walk across the street to get some cash from the ATM. At first he felt offended but eventually got used to it. There's also this mall two blocks away from the hotel that has pretty much everything you're looking for. Makati and the airport is only 30-45 minutes away depending on traffic. US Embassy was only 5 minutes away, which we found convenient in case of an emergency. Manila Doctor's Hospital is like 10 minutes away in case you came down with the flu or had a bad meal.

Take advantage of the amenities they offer in this hotel. The restaurants are very comfortable and romantic, the spa was really worth the money, and the casino was very convenient. One thing we didn't like much was how the pool was in the middle of the hotel. It was funny how one guest complained about us--apparently he saw us kissing by the pool at the 28th floor! LOL! The doors of the regular rooms seem to be pretty thin as you can hear noise coming from the rooms in the hallway. Besides all this, the hotel is perfect for young couples ready to try anything and everything.

I was here for 5 days on business, the hotel was a great place to stay in a city which is still developing. Very friendly staff, great service, excellent rooms, great food with a few restaurants to choose from.

Unless you need to be in Makati City, this is the hotel to stay in.

I thought this was a very good hotel and relatively inexpensive for a Hyatt. Safe area to walk around in with a 7 Eleven across the road, a shopping centre a little further down and a good dining precinct down the waterfront (about a 5min walk).

Likes
- Newly renovated rooms that are a good size
- Good pool area (although you can't take the towel back to your room)
- Very good staff, all very helpful
- Feels safe and secure

Dislikes
- Conceirge would only recommend restaurants inside the hotel

Couple of hints:
1) Get a taxi from the airport to the hotel - much cheaper than the options from the Hyatt
2) When you want a taxi get the hotel to flag them down so you know they'll use the meter (hard to convince 4/5 drivers if you just wave them down on the street)
3) Fort Santiago is a short drive up the road and worth a visit

Overall will definitely stay here again; good clean rooms and friendly service.

I stay in many hotels for business. This Hyatt is a clean hotel with a wonderful breakfast. I like to take public transportation (not for the faint hearted) and the Hyatt is well located near the metro system LRT--walk straight up Pedro Gil. It was also well located close to several restaurants. The area is safe enough to walk around and there are many good restaurants nearby, but there are some colorful people hanging around, many of whom I provided food and were extremely grateful and friendly if you take the time to talk with them. The price was reasonable but I was staying on a UN rate. With all of that said, I was disgusted that the Hyatt actually gives you a card key which when taken OUT of the slot by the door turns ON the air conditioner so whenever the room is vacant the air conditioner and all of the lights turn on!! Furthermore, they do not have a card to allow guests to reuse sheets or towels. Who cannot wait 5 minutes for a room to cool down after entering it or who cannot use a towel or sheets more than one day? When I complained about this, I was told that this is what the Hyatt clientel expects. In my opinion, all human beings (Hyatt Clients or not) will do the right thing if given the choice. Shame on you Hyatt---please do your part to conserve.

Dirty carpet in the room, and the entire room stank of mildew. Mildew is a serious health risk. Very clearly, top management does not check the rooms or does not take any action. I was simply too exhausted to ask for a room change.

The food is good and staff polite. But they have really lost the plot in a very fundamental area of guest wellbeing.

I stay at the Hyatt a few times a year - it's clean and the restaurant food is excellent. However I often prefer Chinese food a few yeards away. The area is awful - hookers fronting up to me on every block - last time I was offered Viagra eleven times in four blocks. I've even been confronted by a male hooker with makeup (I thought that was funny), The pestilence is abundant.
The Hyatt has excelent rooms and excellent security - I can't fault the place for quality. It's expensive, but that's the price you have to pay in Manila if you want a room with no bugs and good food and good security. There are plenty of roach motels and hotels in Manila which are US$25 a night but I wouldn't stay there ......
I'd recommend the Hyatt to anyone - just watch the quotes because they quote a room in US dollars plus plus, and what they do is convert the US dollars to pesos at the hotel conversion rate which is usually 10% worse than the bank rate, and your credit card company charges 3% service fee plus the buy rate on the foreign exchange so this inflates the price quite a lot - be aware!
The US Consulate is 100 yards away from the Hyatt so if you have any business there then this hotel is well located.
Internet is $22 a day in the room - bring a laptop computer. In the business center it is even higher in cost.
This hotel is not cheap - but it is good, although it is in a really bad area. The casino is interesting - I don't gamble but others might enjoy it.
