“Nothing Fancy, but Will Do”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2012

City Garden Suites aims to provide moderately-priced clean rooms for the budget traveler and in this respect, it succeeds. As opposed to other Southeast Asian cities, Manila can be quite expensive and walking the streets at night may be dangerous. At this hotel, you will not worry about dangers: the area, although busy at day, is quite pleasant at night, and very close to Robinson's Mall where you can dine almost anything you wish. Prices are reasonable, rooms were comfortable, appliances were in working order, and service was prompt and courteous. Breakfast buffet was so-so, but in my case it was included in the price.

The hotel is also close to some major historical areas, such as Rizal Park and the old city of Intramuros. The elevated train is not exactly close, but you will get to walk through some very interesting areas of the Ermita neighborhood in order to reach it. You are also at a walking distance from Manila Bay and the area fronting the bay where you will find more restaurants, if you wish. Not everybody is enamored of that section of the city, though, so make sure this is where you want to go. I went to do some historical research and, with the proximity of the national library, the area was excellent.

Overall I recommend the hotel. If you are willing to spend at least a hundred USD a night, by all means skip it; but if you want to save money and stay in a safe hotel, City Garden will do.

The hotel is perfect if you're not looking for something too expensive. Me and a coworker did a total of 5 nights in there and we really couldn't complain. The staff was friendly, checking in was easy, the internet was okay. The only complaint would be breakfast wish they had more of a variety. Besides that it's close to Robinson's Mall so you don't have to go far to do shopping or eat a meal. Only bad part was when we stayed for our first three nights our room was rather small and I felt like we were in the wrong room. When we came back for our last two nights we ended up in a bigger room but paid the same. The staff said the rooms were both deluxe. Also we had ants in our room for our last two nights there. The staff tried to get rid of them but it didn't work that well.

Room Tip: We stayed in a deluxe for two people it was perfect.

I am wiritng this in response to a review made by C102012 New York
he gave it a very bad review......well in respect to thier view I just want to
say in the defence of "City Gardens Suites" that I have stayed there for
the last 3 years I had visited Manila and my stay was very pleasant indeed
the hotel staff looked after me very well.....Not one ocassion did the doormen
allow me to enter a taxi without them telling the taxi driver to put his meter
on.....there is a lot of children around and Yes they do approach you at times
but only to say "hello" which to me is been friendly and at No time did any
of them do any begging......Night time can get very busy and yes I have walked
streets and in the sights as late as 3am in the morning and again at No time
was I approached or been threatened by anyone........everyone I have spoken
to whether during the Day or Night have all been very friendly.......Overall All the Staff
at "City Gardens Suites" are there to help you No matter what time it is as they
are all very friendly and helpful and if you do have a problem and you report it
to a member of staff it gets dealt with right away.....so please do not take my word for it
next time you are in Manlia try it out for a few nights you will not be DISAPPOINTED.....

Kev............England

Staff was friendly enough. Checking in was hassle free. The room was adequate. However, what was not told to us upon checking in was the construction going on. My wife and I were abruptly woken at 8am to the sounds of major construction. It literally sounded as if they were renovating our room. A call to the front desk received an apology and sorry for the inconvenience reply. Needless to say, we packed and transferred to the Lotus Garden, where our stay was much more enjoyable.

This is just an average hotel in Manila. Location is quite good, just one block away from Robinson's place. Nothing fancy about the hotel facility, just the basics.. Though not happy with the hotel staff because they don't exert too much effort to provide customer service, not attentive on the needs of the guests.
