“lively area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2013

visited the church and the area around it, very animated, very lively...vegetables and fruits on nearby streets were very cheap, and the handicraft shops under the bridge nearby were worth checking out too...a pleasant sidetrip, lots of local colour!

“Looked cheap”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

we arrived on Jan 11th, two days after the big celebration here for black jesus and the place was absolutely packed. The church itself was pretty but it looked like it was made from cheap material. There was a huge local's market between the church and the metro.

“crazy experience but well worth the crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

The Quiapo Church and the surrounding markets are fairly crowded and Western tourists may find that they are particularly targeted by beggars and stall owners, which can be a little intimidating. However, its worth braving the crowds and the attention to experience a Manila icon.

The markets are not great for touristy souvenirs, as they are geared towards local trade - selling everything from religious memorabilia to old juke boxes to gravestones! Also make sure you get your fortune told by one of the tarot card readers in the square beside the church.

“A glimpse at church life in Manila”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

Quiapo Church gave us a glimpse at church life in Manila. During our visit, there were people in prayer and walking on their knees in the aisle. The architecture will not blow you away if you've visited other churches, but it was pretty and unique to see the black Nazerene. We did not feel unsafe during our visit (we went in the morning), but I could see how some might advise that you keep your wits about yourself. Just use the same common sense you'd use in any big city-- don't talk to strangers and carry only what you need. You can buy your own black Nazarene statue in the surrounding markets.

“Local city church and low priced items”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2012

Quiapo church is one of the longest standing churches i believe.
Visited by tons of people everyday and all year-out.
It is packed with people so as usual the drill is to hold on tight to your valuables.

Cheap items can be found inside and outside street shops.

The possible cheap items are
- Motorcycle Gears
- Bicycle Stores and Parts
- Food and Ingredients
- Clothing and Footwear
- Luggage and Bag shops
- Gadgets and accessories
- Appliances and Repair shops
- Local goods
- Stationary Supplies
- Restaurants
- Cheap scary motels

And the jeepney/buses/Fx routes go all-throughout Manila.

I advise you to pack light and wear light clothing as you are exposed to the weather and to other dirty elements usually found near streets. Leave your jewelry and expensive gadgets at home. And just bring food and shopping money
