“One of my favourite places in Manila!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2015 NEW

I visited on a Sunday with my mom. Despite it being a weekend, there weren't many people around, which was great because we got to take pictures.

The National Museum is one of my favourite places in Metro Manila, particularly the Hall of the Masters. I do think it is a must-see because it encapsulates a lot of interesting art history which could attract even those who aren't into art.

I suggest you visit on Sundays, when the admission is free. What I do is; I take a right after the entrance and go through the museum's first and second floors, saving the Hall of the Masters for last which is my favourite part.

“Fascinating exhibits, though under construction in parts”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2015 NEW

I just visited the museum, not the art gallery (and I ust say it wasn't made particularly clear that the ticket covered both).

The museum itself has some great exhibit rooms with a lot of fascinating information about Filipino history and culture... but you have to trek to the upper floors as the lower ones seemed empty and under contraction. When you reach the right rooms though, it's very rewarding as the information and layout has been thought out quite well I particularly liked the information on indigenous cultures and the flora and fauna of the country. It's not all objects in glass cabinets either, there is a clear attempt to make the history visually stimulating.

On the down side: The gift shop leaves a lot to be desired! Also, they require you to leave your bag at the entrance if it is bigger than the size of an A5 piece of paper.

“Two museums in one”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 19, 2015

On building has the art work & the other has exhibits. Pay for one & the second is free. Worth a look & you can walk from Intramuros.

“Free entrance on Sundays”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2015

Nice collection of both older paintings and newer Filipino art. I wasn't too impressed with the ground floor rooms, but the 1st floor has some excellent artwork. Definitely worth a visit - particularly on Sundays, when entrance is free.

“Houses the History”

This was part of my National Museum solo-backpacking. This structure houses different artifacts that contains significance in the Philippine History.
