its being airconditioned sets this church apart from the rest. very convenient for people like me who visits divisoria every now and then. i used to pass by before going to my final destination to say thanks and worship.
Set at one end of Chinatown and some good restaurants this is a lovingly preserved church to visit and reflect within. There's invariably a purple fire engine parked outside which has a good story to tell about local civic pride.
It's where I was Christened. This Church has accomplished its mission of converting a significant number of Chinese and giving the Philippines its first Catholic Saint (San Lorenzo Ruiz).
The facade of the Church was enhanced some years back. Its altar is interesting providing visitors a glimpse of Binondo district's cultural heritage. Its one of the churches which should not be missed by Filipinos who are practising the "Visita Iglesia" tradition during the Holy Week in Manila.
Surrounding it are the trading/commercial and food establishments in the interesting Binondo area. It's proximity to Ongpin (Chinatown) and Divisoria provides an opportunity to experience the "real Manila." It's a walk away from the popular Eng Bee Tin hopia store.
There's a limited parking parking around the Church.
It was close to my hotel and I strolled in to see it. Bunch of restaurants and a mall close to it. If you are religious or just want to visit something old it is worth visiting it.
The outside is not so impresssive, but the inside, especially behind the altar is definitely worth seeing
