When our flight was delayed overnight, Delta bussed 400 irritated, exhausted passengers to Manila Hotel. It was a bit of a "let them eat cake" moment, but compared to my past overnight experience with Delta in Atlanta (bed bugs, broken down motel), it was appreciated.
The rooms at Manila Hotel are all about luxury - plush beds/bedding, harbor view on one side of the hotel (odd-numbered rooms), a box of office supplies on the ample desk, the appointment was beautiful and - over-the-top feature - there was a TV in the bathroom (as well as in the bedroom).
The lobby was ornate - marble floor, chandeliers, and we were greeted with an orchestra of white-gowned young women.
We were also treated to the dinner buffet - an unbelievable array of food, from seafood (oysters, hard-shelled crab, prawns, etc.) to bars of various cuisines - Italian, Thai, Filipino, Chinese, Spanish, cheeses, meat (rack of lamb, prime rib), salad and dessert (chocolate fountain; ice cream counter; huge spread of fresh fruit; fancy display of small, artistic pastries).
For anyone wanting a luxury accommodation, this is your place. However, it was a bit hard to see the abundance of food and luxury detail with so much poverty and need so near.
One minor note: There was a cultural program at the local outdoor arena. The drum thumping rattled my windows on the 14th floor - until midnight. You might want to check on the entertainment schedule nearby, if you want a quiet stay. Sleep quality was great otherwise.
(We were there such a short time and Delta was paying for it, so I can't rate value, location or breakfast - we were picked up at 3 a.m.!)
