Caldron Intramuros Walking Tour
A three-hour tour conducted by Carlos Celdran that could be considered a one-man show. He takes you through a history of Manila from the PRE-colonial to the Spanish and American regimes, and then the rising Chinese elite class from Mainland China. Although the content of the tour is mainly based on historical fact, every so often, Carlos Celdran would interject his opinion. However as he repeatedly reminds the tour group, enjoy the tour and have a sense of humor. The tour takes the group through the ruined walls of Intramuros, a bomb shelter within Intramuros, a calesa-ride (horse buggy) or tricycle-ride to the Unesco World Heritage site of San Agustin Church and finally ending at Plaza San Luis for a Halo-halo, a Philippine treat consisting of an assortment of Philippine delicacies on a tall glass filled with crushed ice, milk and a scoop of ice cream.
Celdran and his entourage manages to keep the tour group intact and on schedule. Although the tour, in comparison to other tours, is considered pricey at Pesos 1100, I think it is worth the cost. Celdran's commentary provides a fresh and humorous perspective of Philippine history and how all these foreign regimes transformed the Filipino into a hodgepodge just like the halo-halo.
