“Great value for 3 star hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013 via mobile

I spent a night here after 3 nights at the Shangrila Makati. Missed the 5 star comforts for Shangila, but pleased with the service, location and value. I wanted to walk around the Intramuros early morning as it gets too hot during the day. Bayleaf was an excellent choice being the #1 rated hotel inManila by Tripadvisor.

The Bayleaf is an oasis of calm on the craziness that is Manila. Although it is a few kilometers from the airport, we arrived late at night and using a metered taxi, it cost less than 400 pesos and only took about 15 minutes. We were warmly greeted upon arrival. Everything was clean and in good working order. Very quiet, too. The included breakfast was very good and the dining room has a beautiful view of the city. After a busy day of sight-seeing, we watched the sun go down from the rooftop bar/restaurant. A lovely way to end the day and left us with a positive feeling of Manila.

I stayed at the Bayleaf 2 days ago and have to say that it exceeded my expectations. Right from the start, I was promptly welcomed by the young reception team, despite other arrivals and a wedding party taking place at the hotel. Check-in was a breeze. I was given a map of Intramuros and when I asked about an ATM of my bank (HSBC), the lady at the reception even took a few minutes to search for the closest branch and to write down its address and phone number. It turned out to be at only 15 minutes walking distance in neighbouring Binondo (Chinatown). The staff were also very supportive in printing essential travel documents and helped me getting a taxi during rush hour traffic.

The hotel is ideal to explore the historic Intramuros and the nearby Rizal Park, two important sites (and amazing sights) of downtown Manila. Other parts of the city like Pasay (the CCP, Sofitel hotel, Coconut Palace, Mall of Asia) or Ermita, Malate & Paco are a short taxi drive away (75 -120 Pesos = up to 2 GBP or 3 USD).
The rooms with their coloured walls exude coolness and an air of freshness. The standard rooms are rather medium-sized but the bathrooms are spacious. The in-room safe boxes are modern and can easily accommodate a 13 inch notebook with its sleeve, plus various photographic equipment, including an average-sized DSLR. There is free WiFi in the rooms and public areas.
I was impressed by the superb rooftop terrace offering panoramic views of Manila. It can be accessed at anytime during the day and is open for dinner from 5 pm until after midnight. The breakfast was good and the service prompt and friendly. The area around the hotel is safe during daytime but I was told that it should be better avoided at night.
In conclusion, the location, excellent service, impeccable cleanliness, free WiFi and the rooftop terrace outweigh by far the negatives (medium-sized rooms, lack of a swimming pool). Highly recommended, and excellent value for money.

Stayed here couple of days ago. I highly recommend the place. Great staff and service. Rooms are kept well, breakfast is good and the Skydeck is amazing. There is free wifi throughout the hotel. The hotel is in an older area which at times may appear slightly unsafe to people who are not used to locals. Be aware that the hotel is quite a drive (in traffic) to the airports. Allow at least an hr in peak hour. 8.5/10 for hotel... Location 6.5/10 for tourists.

I have no negative impressions. Rather, the service, breakfast, cleanliness, bedroom (in sum, everything a hotel con offer you) were excellent. I went to the Bayleaf Hotel for a conference which took place in its premises. Here again, the organization and service were perfect. I strongly recommend this hotel which is located in the old city (called "intramuros").
